Southampton: Fans love Jan Bednarek news

Southampton have confirmed that Jan Bednarek has signed a new contract at the club.

Poland international Bednarek made the move to the Saints in 2017, with him costing the south-coast side about £5m from Lech Poznan. Since then, he has made 85 appearances in all competitions for the club, with him playing every minute of every single game so far this campaign in the Premier League under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

As such, it is a big boost to the club that he has extended his stay until 2025. Currently valued at £13.5m (Transfermarkt), the central defender is 24 years old, and has a big future ahead of him if he can continue to develop at St. Mary’s Stadium under Hasenhuttl.

Upon the confirmation of the news, the Southampton fans were absolutely delighted, and they took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the Bednarek news below

Leeds United: Former manager Simon Grayson discusses how he didn’t want to sell Schmeichel

Leeds United definitely made some mistakes on their road to returning to England’s top-flight. One of these was the sale of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and former boss Simon Grayson has emphasised his frustration at the club for letting the Danish star leave back in 2011.

Simon Grayson slams the club for Schmeichel sale

Speaking to Rob Tanner of The Athletic, Grayson said: “Kasper was sold by people above me. I’m not surprised by his success”

Tanner tweeted that: ‘He (Grayson) didn’t want to sell and it was a bad deal.’

The goalkeeper’s success emphasises how big a mistake the sale was

The goalkeeper was sold to Leicester City for only £1million back in 2011, and he has thrived in England ever since. His career at the Foxes has definitely been very special as he has made 389 appearances and kept 125 clean sheets (Transfermarkt). He was crucial in their promotion efforts and, of course, their amazing Premier League title win back in 2015/16.

He has received a lot of praise during his career, including from his current manager Brendan Rodgers, who called him a “world-class goalkeeper.”

His career definitely highlights how big a mistake it was for Leeds to sell the now £7.20 million-valued goalkeeper, especially for as cheap as the £1million they got for him

Portsmouth: Gary Roberts heaps praise on new signing Michael Jacobs

Former Portsmouth player Gary Roberts has praised the club for what he calls a ‘great signing’ after Michael Jacobs arrived at Fratton Park on Monday.

The 28-year-old was released by Wigan Athletic earlier this summer after featuring 32 times in the Championship last season.

Having previously worked with Pompey manager Kenny Jackett at Wolverhampton Wanderers, a deal has now been completed, seeing the midfielder sign a two-year contract. Jacobs becomes Jackett’s fourth signing this summer, following Sean Raggett, Cameron Pring and Callum Johnson in making a move to the League One club.

Following his arrival on Monday, Portsmouth boss Jackett is quoted as saying by BBC Sport: “Michael’s an exciting player with good Championship experience.”

Those comments have now been followed up by an endorsement from former Pompey player Roberts who took to Twitter to give his view on the transfer deal. In a simple tweet, Roberts said: ‘Some player crackers – great signing’.

In total, Jacobs made 188 appearances for Wigan, appearing 79 times in League One for the Latics during his five-year spell (via Transfermarkt).

Finally, Jackett makes another signing for Portsmouth.

With the new season underway, it was becoming a slight concern that little transfer activity had developed over the last few weeks at Fratton Park, but Jacobs’ arrival could be the start of a couple more between now and the end of the transfer window.

Do you think Jacobs can go on and become a key player for Portsmouth this term? Let us know your views in the comments section below…

West Ham targeting a surprise move for Everton’s Seamus Coleman

According to The Daily Mirror (27/09 edition, page 70), West Ham are plotting a surprise move for Everton captain Seamus Coleman.

What’s the word?

The Hammers finally got themselves up and running in this new Premier League season with a thumping 4-0 victory over Wolves on Sunday night, and it seems as though David Moyes is keen on building on that with some late moves in the transfer market.

The Daily Mirror claims that Moyes is planning on a reunion with his former charge at Everton, Coleman, who signed him for the club for a reported £60k and played 102 times under his management.

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

The report adds that Moyes sees the Irishman as someone who can bring the Hammers some vital experience and leadership, and is hoping Everton will be open to selling the veteran full-back.

More leadership at West Ham

Whilst Coleman is set to turn 32 next month and is arguably past the peak years of his career, he has shown even this season that he can be a reliable performer for a side like Everton – he has captained and played the full 90 minutes in the Toffees’ first three Premier League games, and even picked up an assist in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Speaking after that game, Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti paid his skipper huge praise, saying that his leadership skills and influence are comparable to that of the likes of Paolo Maldini, John Terry and Sergio Ramos, whom he has all managed.

Moyes himself has been very public in his praise of the right-back, opening up on just how much he developed at Goodison Park since arriving rather under the radar. He said back in 2016: “Coleman had been in at Birmingham, Celtic, somewhere else, and nobody took him. We took him and he was £60k. I used to think he was like Forrest Gump. He could run for fun.

“He went to Blackpool on loan and I used to go and watch him. He played outside-right and he wasn’t ready to be a full-back yet. Even though that’s what he was, he hadn’t learnt the art of defending. But boy could he run, he could put folk on the back foot because he was positive.”

The Hammers could add some vital leadership to their back-line by making a move for the £70k-a-week earning Coleman before the end of the transfer window.

Alioski should be joining Berardi through the exit door at Leeds

Leeds United are finally back in the Premier League, and as with any club that has been promoted from the Championship, they now need to strengthen their squad and aim towards staying in the top-flight.

The Whites may have run away with the Championship last term, amassing 90 points on their way to the title, but you’d have a hard time claiming that it’s the talent in the squad that has carried them over the line.

Indeed, many of the players at Elland Road remain from the team that finished 13th before Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival, and upgrades are needed in certain areas.

Unfortunately, this means that it will soon be time to say goodbye to some players that have become cult heroes at the club in their own right. Gaetano Berardi is seemingly already on his way out, but he may not be the only man who has to leave.

Sadly, it’s hard to see how Ezgjan Alioski fits into this Leeds team from here on out.

The Macedonian found it harder and harder to get into the team towards the end of the season, starting just three times since the restart, and two of those were down to heavy rotation after promotion was confirmed.

The left-footer has been a great servant at Elland Road, playing 125 league games at the club, and it was very easy for fans to grow to love him due to his antics off the pitch, but in the Premier League you have to be at a higher standard, and it’s hard to really argue that Alioski is that player.

Yes, he’s versatile, but the two positions he takes up are filled rather well and with quite a lot of depth with Stuart Dallas and Jack Harrison as starting options at left-back and left midfield, while Yasser Larouci has already been linked as a new backup.

Unfortunately, Alioski’s time as a key player at Leeds may be coming to an end, and while he may not be sold this summer, it may just be a matter of time before he leaves Elland Road.

OUTRAS BIZARRICES DO BRASILEIRÃO FEMININO

Olha a hora!

Henry Winter hails Jose Mourinho and Spurs after derby win

They may not have kept a clean sheet, but Tottenham’s north London derby victory over Arsenal had all the hallmarks of a Jose Mourinho masterclass. After falling behind to an Alexandre Lacazette thunderbolt, Spurs quickly found themselves back in the game thanks to a clinical piece of finishing from Heung-min Son.

And then, when it looked like the game was drifting towards a draw, Toby Alderweireld rose highest to plant his header past Emiliano Martinez and hand Spurs all three points.

Following the end of the game, The Times journalist Henry Winter took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the match, and he reserved special praise for Mourinho in particular, insisting that it’s “always dangerous to write him off”.

Having now gone above their fierce rivals in the Premier League table, Spurs have the perfect opportunity to now launch a late Europa League push.

And with all the momentum that comes with a derby day victory, you wouldn’t put it past them from overhauling some of the sides above them.

Report: Josh Brownhill reveals why he turned down West Ham

Former West Ham United transfer target Josh Brownhill has revealed why he chose a move to Burnley over one to the London Stadium, in an interview with The Athletic.

What did he say?

Brownhill made a great start to the season with Bristol City, scoring five goals and providing two assists in his 28 Championship appearances.

However, he chose to move to the Premier League with Burnley during the January window, despite interest from the Hammers who reportedly made a move for the £9m man.

Asked why he chose Burnley rather than the London side, the 24-year-old said that the Turf Moor club has a special feeling.

“You know when something just feels right,” he told The Athletic.

“Burnley gave me that feeling. Premier League football, a great manager, quality players and fans. I feel comfortable.”

One that got away

After missing out on Brownhill the club instead moved for midfielder Tomas Soucek and winger Jarod Bowen, but have struggled since picking up one league win since New Year’s Day, leaving them in 16th and only ahead of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Brownhill is yet to make an impact at Burnley, having managed just one substitute appearance, but he could certainly have given them a boost in midfield where they have been struggling.

Carlos Sanchez, Jack Wilshere, Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini have all seen their game time limited due to poor form and injury, while Soucek suffered injury very soon after he signed.

Liverpool must not to lose their atmosphere at Anfield if they increase the capacity

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Liverpool’s start to the season could barely have gone better.

The Reds have won 11 of their first 12 games in the Premier League, and they lead the table by eight points from Leicester City and Chelsea. They are also a further point ahead of champions Manchester City. Not only that, they also top their Champions League group and have progressed to the semi-finals of the League Cup as well.

[ad_pod ]

That success has come in, in part, at their 53,394 seater-stadium, Anfield. It is one of England’s historic grounds, but it is still just the sixth-largest in the country in terms of capacity, behind Old Trafford, the London Stadium, the Emirates Stadium, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Etihad Stadium. As such, there are plans to increase it to 60,000, with several consultation meetings to be held with fans and local residents.

Increasing the capacity of the stadium makes sense, especially if the Reds want to consolidate their position at the top of the tree. However, they must be careful not to lose their world-famous atmosphere – Pep Guardiola has even said Anfield has something that you will find in no other stadium in the world.

Watch Liverpool Videos With StreamFootball.tv Below

Whilst they have moved into new stadiums, Arsenal and West Ham have felt the effect of more seats in their grounds, with many complaining about the lack of atmosphere despite there being far more voices.

Stadiums like the Camp Nou and the Santiago Bernabeu hold over 80,000 seats, yet there are still complaints that they are lacking – from those involved at the club, as well.

Liverpool, of course, are a huge team. But so are those two Spanish outfits. At the end of the day, more seats doesn’t make for a better atmosphere. In those kinds of situations, the sound and noise level can often get diluted. Fans around the world want to get a glimpse of the best sides in action. Whilst that is understandable, there is a possibility it could have a dent on those famous European nights.

When a rival like Guardiola says Anfield is good, then it must be. Liverpool must be careful what they wish for.
