Fulham interested in Allan Campbell

Fulham are interested in a deal to bring Allan Campbell to Craven Cottage this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Football Insider, who claimed that the Cottagers, along with Millwall, Luton Town and Peterborough United, are considering a move for the Motherwell midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.

It is reported that the 22-year-old has decided to reject the Scottish Premiership club’s offer of a new contract, meaning he will become a free agent upon the expiry of his current deal at Fir Park in the coming weeks.

Fans will be buzzing

With Stefan Johansen looking likely to leave Craven Cottage this summer, with the 30-year-old reported to be in talks with Queens Park Rangers regarding a permanent switch to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, midfield would appear to be an area in which Fulham will look to strengthen ahead of their upcoming Championship campaign.

Considering the potential Campbell seems to possess, the Motherwell midfielder could well prove a very astute addition to the Cottagers’ squad this summer.

Indeed, the £1.08m-rated youngster impressed over his 34 Premiership fixtures for Graham Alexander’s side last season, scoring four goals and creating one big chance for his teammates, as well as averaging 1.4 interceptions and 1.8 tackles and winning 4.7 duels per game.

These metrics saw the £1,500-per-week Scotland under-21 international earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.82, ranking him as Motherwell’s joint ninth-best performer in the Scottish top flight. However, what makes his returns all the more impressive is the fact that Campbell is still just 22 years of age, meaning he has considerable scope to develop even further as a footballer.

The opinion surrounding the “highly-rated” midfielder – in the words of Alexander – would very much appear to be that he has a very bright future ahead of him in the game, with his manager stating that the Glaswegian is “everything that a professional footballer should be”, as well as dubbing him a “shining example” for others at the club.

As such, when adding in the fact that he will be available on a free transfer this summer, it would appear most advisable for the Cottagers to do all they can to get a deal over the line for Campbell this summer. Not only would his signing appear to be a fantastic piece of business for the club, but also one which has the potential to leave Fulham fans buzzing.

Howey expects investment at Sunderland

Sunderland are in the play-offs for the second time in three seasons and with a new owner in Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, former Premier League defender Steve Howey exclusively told Football FanCast that he expects them to invest and build the club back up from next season.

Stewart Donald, who bought the club from Ellis Short in 2018, eventually got out of Sunderland after several attempts to sell the club and Louis-Dreyfus could see his new club promoted within months of becoming their new owner.

Sunderland suffered two consecutive relegations as they fell drastically from the Premier League all the way into League One, which now consists of the likes of Sunderland, Portsmouth, Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic.

If the Black Cats manage to win the play-offs and get themselves back into the Championship then their fans can expect smart and sensible investment meant to follow. That is according to Howey, who spoke exclusively to FFC.

He said: “I think the new owner recognises the potential of the club and we’ve seen that through the people he’s brought into the club to support him. They all seem very shrewd people that hopefully know what they are doing because let’s be honest, the last owner didn’t.

“He’s got people around him that can offer good advice and they can maybe build the platform for next season if they go up, and I’m pretty sure that there will be investment in the club.”

Sunderland entered the play-offs in awful form having won just one of their previous seven league games and that was against Plymouth Argyle to secure their play-off spot.

The Black Cats will be hoping that they can achieve their goal of getting out of League One as that would help them in potentially keeping the likes of Charlie Wyke and Aiden McGeady.

Worrying Derby takeover update emerges

The takeover of Derby County has been plunged into doubt after a concerning report regarding Erik Alonso emerged.

What’s the latest?

According to the Daily Mail, complications have arisen in Alonso’s bid to purchase Derby from the current owner, Mel Morris, as the Spanish football agent intends to buy the club with money borrowed against Pride Park.

The attempt to secure the finances against Pride Park, as well as the length of time it takes to arrange a report on the value of Derby’s stadium, is reported to be the source of the delay in the takeover attempt – which had been agreed with Morris around a month ago.

However, the Daily Mail now claim that, because of these latest developments, the deal could head in a similar direction to the failed takeover attempt of Dubai-based Bin Zayed International.

Fans will be furious

Considering the miserable season that Derby have endured on the pitch, something that could still be made worst if the club lose to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, as the result would relegate the Rams to the third tier of English football, this latest development in the club’s proposed takeover is not likely to come as welcome news to fans.

Indeed, when taking into account the fact that Mel Morris agreed to sell the club a month ago, with the hope of a swift changeover to Alonso’s No Limits Sports Ltd, the amount of time that the deal has sat awaiting the EFL’s approval would not appear to bode well for the takeover.

However, it could be argued that, if Alonso does not actually possess the money to purchase the club in the first place, and instead needs to take a loan out on Pride Park to fund the takeover, he may not be the right person to be in charge of the club – as this would indicate he does not have funds readily available to invest in Derby County.

Either way, the news is certainly not good for the Derby fans who were hopeful of the club heading in a rather more positive direction under new ownership, and the future of the Rams now appears, once again, worryingly uncertain.

Rangers suffer Kwadwo Baah blow

Steven Gerrard looks to have suffered a blow at Rangers this week, with the revelation that transfer target Kwadwo Baah has had a medical at Watford ahead of a potential move to the Hornets this summer, which seemingly rules out the possibility of him moving to Ibrox.

Rangers were heavily linked with the Rochdale winger in January as a result of his impressive performances in League One for Brian Barry-Murphy’s side, but it had seemed as if Manchester City would be signing him after they reached an agreement with the Greater Manchester club.

However, following an issue with his medical, the England under-18 international was not signed by the Premier League leaders, and he returned to Rochdale for the rest of the season.

Whilst his performances since then have been disappointing, the fact that he is out of contract with the Dale this summer meant it was always likely that top clubs would return for him this summer, and he now seems to be on the brink of joining Watford.

The 18-year-old could have been signed on a free transfer by Ross Wilson this summer, which could have represented a superb deal for Rangers given his obvious talent.

In 29 league appearances this season, Baah has three goals and two assists for Rochdale, including a brace in a 4-4 draw against Charlton Athletic, with both goals certainly catching the eye.

Earlier in the season, Barry-Murphy was full of praise for his young winger after he scored another stunning goal in a 5-0 thrashing of Wigan, saying: “He’s a very special talent, he’s going to attract the headlines – and rightly so because he’s a very dangerous player.”

Therefore, Gerrard will undoubtedly be disappointed that Rangers weren’t able to strike an agreement with the youngster, as he looks destined for a big future in the game and could’ve enjoyed a lot of success at Ibrox.

Celtic: McLeish urges Hoops to sign King

Alex McLeish has urged Celtic to land Everton striker Josh King this summer.

The Hoops have been linked with a move for the Norwegian forward should Eddie Howe take over as their new manager ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

King set for Everton exit

The 29-year-old made the move to Merseyside on a short-term deal back in January, but he looks set to depart Goodison Park at the end of the season.

King, who recorded a quicker top speed than Marcus Rashford last season, is thought to be on £45,000-a-week with the Toffees.

Talking exclusively to Football Insider, McLeish urged Celtic to land the Norway striker, labelling him as a potential ‘tremendous addition’.

“If Josh has still got his speed, then yes. He is a higher level player than the Scottish Premier League.

“We’ve said that about some other players and they haven’t quite worked out in the Scottish Premiership for one reason or another.

“However, Josh is quick and he knows his way around the penalty boxes. If he still retains that speed, still has that speed, then yes, it would be a tremendous addition to Celtic’s frontline.”

Transfer Tavern take

We’re with McLeish in believing that King could be a ‘tremendous addition’ to Celtic’s attacking ranks, especially with Odsonne Edouard pushing for a Parkhead exit.

Should Howe arrive in Glasgow, the Norwegian could then become the ideal replacement for the France under-21 international. King has scored 48 goals in the Premier League, has more than 50 international caps under his belt and won’t turn 30 until 2022.

A free transfer could be just what Celtic need.

West Brom eyeing Jonson Clarke-Harris

West Brom are one of several teams keeping a close eye on Jonson Clarke-Harris ahead of the summer transfer window…

What’s the word?

According to BristolLive, the Baggies have been keeping tabs on the Peterborough United talisman, but now face competition from their relegation and likely Championship rivals Sheffield United.

It’s thought that Posh value the 26-year-old forward at around £5m, and that’ll only rise if they gain promotion from League One this season – a real possibility as they occupy second place, just one point behind the division leaders.

Scottish champions Rangers and AFC Bournemouth have also been mooted with interest.

Right a wrong

Albion chief Luke Dowling can make amends for their decisions last summer with a swoop for Clarke-Harris at the end of the season.

The Leicester-born ace was brought in as a £1.25m replacement for the goal-laden Ivan Toney, who swapped London Road for Brentford in the summer after finding the net 26 times. Even despite interest from the Baggies and other Premier League teams.

Indeed, according to Express & Star journalist Joseph Masi in July, West Brom were ‘in talks’ to sign him from United. He ultimately joined the Bees for an initial £5m and has gone onto score a whopping 28 goals in just 36 league appearances this term.

That’s something the faltering Midlands side must bitterly regret now.

To make matters worse, the striker Albion and then-manager Slaven Bilic settled on was Karlan Grant for a total of £12m – thought to be one of the Croatian’s top targets.

He’s failed to live up to expectations, having bagged just one goal in 17 games, playing only 1,095 minutes. He’s even been usurped by January loan arrival Mbaye Diagne.

Clarke-Harris has certainly filled the void left behind by Toney as he’s been in ruthless form this campaign. Last weekend, he scored his second hat-trick of the season in Peterborough’s 7-0 demolition of Accrington Stanley, taking his total to 27 for the season.

And he doesn’t just add goals, at least according to his boss Darren Ferguson, who told reporters last month: “Jonson’s goals have been valuable, but he’s more than just a goalscorer. He is a leader, a winner and a real focal point for this team.”

The 6-foot powerhouse’s physical attributes also make for interesting reading, too. Perhaps, he’s an ideal successor to Diagne.

Dowling can’t make the same mistake twice, so he can begin to right that wrong with a move for the free-scoring beast this summer. £5m is a mere snip compared to the £12m paid for Grant.

AND in other news, Baggies may have ideal Diagne successor in 21 y/o beast who’s “going to score goals”…

Jose Mourinho set to unleash Gareth Bale

According to a Tottenham Hotspur source, speaking to Football Insider, Lilywhites boss Jose Mourinho is planning to start Gareth Bale in ‘virtually every game’ over these final few months of the season – with an exciting behind the scenes claim emerging that he is looking like a ‘world beater’ whilst being ‘lean, fit and hungry’.

Bale has recently returned to form following months of being overlooked by Mourinho, but Football Insider explain this was down to being careful rather than indifferent to the 2020 summer signing.

Mourinho set for Tottenham plan

Indeed, the Portuguese boss apparently devised a tailored plan for the 31-year-old after he spent two seasons barely featuring for parent club Real Madrid.

It is claimed that Bale’s lack of cameos was to steadily ease him back to full fitness, with this Spurs source explaining to Football Insider that Mourinho is now planning to play him in ‘virtually every game’.

Transfer Tavern take

The Tottenham boss is apparently set to unleash the Wales international as he is convinced that Bale is now fully fit and ready to cope with the demands of Premier League football.

This Football Insider source also explained that Bale is looking like a ‘worldbeater’ behind the scenes, not to mention ‘lean, fit and hungry’.

And going by this exciting claim, it’s safe to say Spurs supporters could be about to see a lot more from Bale in the next few weeks.

Gers’ Jack withdraws from Scotland duty

The Scotland national team have confirmed Glasgow Rangers’ Ryan Jack has had to pull out of the squad due to injury.

Jack injured

It was a surprise to see the midfielder called up by Steve Clarke in the first place considering he has not played for the Gers since February 21st (Transfermarkt).

Now, though, it is clear he is no position to play for his country or his club right now, and he has therefore withdrawn from international duty on this occasion.

Blow for Scotland and Rangers

Clarke will no doubt be disappointed to lose the £2.7m-valued former Aberdeen man (Transfermarkt). In his 10 caps, the Tartan Army have prevailed six times, drawn once and lost on three occasions, and they have been defeated just once with him in the starting line-up in the last seven fixtures.

Steven Gerrard, too, will be far from happy with this news. While the 29-year-old has made 24 appearances in all competitions this campaign for the 55-time Scottish champions, he has already suffered knee and calf issues that have kept him out for sustained periods. With the Premiership title now wrapped up, Gerrard may well have been hoping to give some playing time to a man he called “fantastic” earlier this term (via The Glasgow Times), but that looks like it may no longer be possible.

In other news, this man has been tipped to be Rangers’ Player of the Year.
