Peter Siddle must get through Wednesday’s FR Cup match against New South Wales to play in Saturday’s opening Test against Pakistan. Siddle missed the final West Indies game in Perth with a nagging hamstring complaint but has been picked in the Boxing Day squad. However, his last hurdle before the MCG is a 50-over game at the SCG as the defending champions aim to shift from fourth place. “The funny thing was I was actually better before the Perth Test than I was in Adelaide, so it’s not as big a deal as everyone thinks,” Siddle said in Melbourne.”I’ve had a couple of bowls the past two days and I had a good hit-out yesterday in the middle of one of the district grounds and it’s come up fine. I don’t feel any different to when I was bowling a few months ago. It’s feeling ready and I’m feeling confident.”Siddle was pleased to be able to test the problem before he ran into Pakistan. “I’ve got to get through this game with no worries and I am confident of doing that,” Siddle said. “Hopefully I get my spot back now and get back in there.”He comes into the squad for Rob Cassell while another boost for the Bushrangers is the fitness of Brad Hodge, who had to pull out of what was meant to be his final Sheffield Shield appearance with a knee injury.New South Wales have called in Dominic Thornely for the encounter after losing Phillip Hughes to the Australia squad. The allrounder Steven Smith missed the four-day Shield game against Victoria but has been cleared for the one-dayer as he looks to impress further ahead of Australia’s limited-overs fixtures next month.Victoria squad Rob Quiney, Chris Rogers, Brad Hodge, David Hussey, Cameron White (capt), Aaron Finch, Andrew McDonald, John Hastings, Matthew Wade (wk), Peter Siddle, Jon Holland, James Pattinson.New South Wales squad Phil Jaques, David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Ben Rohrer, Moises Henriques (capt), Daniel Smith (wk), Steven Smith, Dominic Thornely, Stephen O’Keefe, Grant Lambert, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc.

WBA interested in signing Jamie Paterson

There is no doubt that West Brom and Valerien Ismael will be looking to add quality to their team in the January transfer window, as they endeavour on a battle in the second half of the season to climb into one of the automatic promotion spots.

Although Albion are maintaining their ability to dominate inside the Championship as they currently sit fourth in the table, their lack of goals and poor finishing is costing them valuable points and catching up on them in the league table.

They go into their game on Saturday having not won in their last four fixtures, scoring once almost a month ago against Middlesbrough.

This lack of firepower has added huge speculation surrounding West Brom, the January transfer window and which forwards they could attract to join the club and save their season before they fall any further.

What’s the word?

According to the Daily Mail, Jamie Paterson has now had his name thrown into the mix of strikers, wingers and forwards on the Baggies’ list of potential signings.

Paterson has also only signed a one year contract with Swansea this season, so West Brom could also get the player at a cut price in the January transfer window, which will surely only add to the attraction to snap up the forward.

Saving their season

The 29-year-old is currently at Swansea, after moving to the Welsh side from Bristol City and has been performing impressively in his time with the team, scoring eight goals and registering four assists in 20 appearances so far this season.

Because of that, he’s earned rave reviews, particularly from a former teammate in Lloyd Kelly who said:

“He’s got the quality of a top player.”

“And obviously the form that he’s in at the moment is good for him.”

Paterson is definitely proving he has the ability to finish and also assist his teammates with his current 12 involvements making him an ideal fit for West Brom due to their current goal drought and complete lack of finishing. For example, they’ve had a shocking 61 shots and 0 goals in their last three games.

Consequently, the striker could definitely be somebody who saves their season and pushes them towards promotion.

It isn’t certain what the exact plans are for West Brom going forward, and if they will add players to their squad in the upcoming transfer window at all remains to be seen. However, Ismael will have to inject something into Albion, to get the side back into contention for promotion.

West Brom face sixth-placed Coventry City at the weekend and will be desperate to take three points from the game, as a loss could see them fall further down the Championship table to as low as seventh.

South Australia’s debutant wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman has slotted in comfortably to first-class cricket, top scoring with 62 on the opening day against his former state Victoria. However, the Bushrangers had the better of the day and dismissed the Redbacks for 292 before their openers survived two overs prior to stumps.Victoria’s players were making a rapid adjustment from Twenty20 to four-day cricket following their Champions League semi-final appearance and their bowlers quickly made the switch. Dirk Nannes and Clint McKay took the new ball and reduced South Australia to 3 for 28 before the middle order began to recover.Mark Cosgrove posted 53 and had assistance from Aaron O’Brien (47), before Cosgrove was caught on the boundary off the bowling of Andrew McDonald. Ludeman and Daniel Christian (37) continued to rebuild with a 99-run seventh-wicket partnership that ended when Ludeman was trapped lbw by Bryce McGain. It was an impressive debut for Ludeman, who moved from Victoria during the off-season and was called into the side after South Australia’s captain and gloveman Graham Manou made a quick dash to India to join Australia’s one-day squad. Ludeman struck nine fours and one six during his 82-ball innings.McKay and Nannes finished with three wickets each for Victoria. The Bushrangers reached 0 for 2 at stumps with Nick Jewell having scored the full tally and Chris Rogers yet to get off the mark.

Além dos citados, voltam de empréstimo no começo do ano: Vagner (goleiro), Lucas (lateral-direito), Taylor (lateral-direito), Mateus Muller (lateral-esquerdo), Leandro Almeida (zagueiro), Bruninho (volante), Daniel (volante), Renato (volante), Juninho (meia), Patrick Vieira (meia-atacante), Gabriel Leite (atacante), Kaue (atacante), Leandro (atacante), Mouche (atacante) e Rodolfo (atacante). O futuro destes é incerto.

CPFC: Fans react to Nathan Ferguson update

Crystal Palace shared images of defender Nathan Ferguson on their official Twitter page on Thursday.

And, as to be expected, a number of Eagles fans were quick to react to the update on social media.

Ferguson was brought to Selhurst Park back in July 2020 after his deal with West Brom expired.

It has since been revealed that Palace have to pay just £900,000 in compensation to the Baggies, however, the 21-year-old is still yet to turn out in red and blue.

The defender has suffered multiple injuries during his time with Palace, with the latest coming back in May when he tore his achilles, but it seems as if Ferguson may well be close to finally making his Eagles debut after being pictured on the training ground.

Unsurprisingly, fans are extremely excited to see what will certainly feel like a new signing finally donning the Palace shirt.

Arsenal fans slam Pepe vs Crystal Palace

Many Arsenal fans have been left slamming the display of Nicolas Pepe in their 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday night.

The former Lille star actually started off quite well, with a nice curling effort that was saved by Vicente Guaita and then tucked home by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the opening few minutes of the first half.

However, his performance became increasingly laboured, as he struggled to have any real impact on the game after that.

The Ivory Coast international lost out on 13 of his duels, and failed with five crossing attempts and five dribbles, while he also lost possession of the ball on no fewer than on 22 separate occasions in the match, the most out of any of his teammates to have set foot on the pitch (Sofascore).

These Gunners slammed his performance on Twitter, with one supporter even going as far as to claim that he has been ‘woeful’:

“I’m also done with Pepe at this club he’s so wasteful. He’s been overall woeful for £72m. Lille robbed us. Move him on in Jan and give a young player a chance.”

ExWHUemployee leaks West Ham overhaul plan

Writing on his Patreon, club insider ExWHUemployee has lifted the lid on a behind-the-scenes ‘shake up’ at West Ham United.

The Lowdown: Moyes eyeing the long term…

During his first stint with the Hammers, Moyes was not offered the chance to build on his work at the London Stadium – being quickly replaced by Manuel Pellegrini.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-developments/” title=”West Ham developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Nearly two years after he was re-instated following GSB’s decision to part ways with the Chilean, Moyes has guided West Ham back to Europe whilst being handed a new and improved long term deal.

The 58-year-old touched upon building for the long term and putting ‘another layer of bricks’ on top of simply signing players, with Ex now revealing news of a major overhaul at academy level.

The Latest: ExWHUemployee lifts lid on behind-scenes ‘shake up’…

As per his information, West Ham are now set for an overhaul in terms of key staff in the Hammers academy.

Indeed, Ex believes that Under-23s coach Dmitri Halajko is now ‘set to leave’ within the next month and other ‘key people’ could also be on their way before the season finishes.

Jeremy Sauer, who is currently assistant boss to Halajko, may depart after his current coaching partner with Moyes and the club now apparently set for an overhaul.

The Verdict: Moyes building…

Given the Scotsman’s fine job at West Ham, we believe the club and supporters should watch on and let him reshape the finer details of the club in his own image.

Planning for the long term is arguably an underrated part of any manager’s job with the emphasis being on aspects like transfers or results on the field.

Finer changes like this one could have a major impact on the talent coming through at Rush Green, and therefore, the first team – so this update could possess some significance.

Wolves fans on line-up vs Southampton

Many Wolves fans have been left fuming as the confirmed line-up for their game away at Southampton in the Premier League emerged.

As per the club’s official Twitter channel, Bruno Lage has stuck to a five-at-the-back formation, as Hwang Hee-chan gets a chance to impress from the start.

However, a lot of big names have been dropped to the bench, and some fans seem especially angry that stalwarts Adama Traore, Ruben Neves and Willy Boly have all been left out of the team to face the Saints at St Mary’s this afternoon.

Nonetheless, Lage has clearly picked the line-up which he thinks will give them the best possible chance of getting all three points, and it will no doubt be interesting to see how the match plays out.

These Wolves supporters fumed as the line-up was shared on Twitter, with one fan describing the starting XI chosen by the Portuguese as ‘insane’:
