Wolves to revisit Traore contract

Many Wolves fans have been left begging for Adama Traore to sign a new deal after news emerged with regards to his contract.

As per a report from earlier on in the week by Birmingham Mail, which has since been shared by Talking Wolves on their Twitter page, the Midlands club are planning to revisit his contract situation, as it only has two years left.

However, they will also contemplate selling the Spain international in the January transfer window if a new deal cannot be agreed.

Traore has already shown his qualities on numerous occasions for the Wanderers, and gave Manchester United a torrid time in their 1-0 home loss in the Premier League last time out.

The winger won no fewer than 12 of his duels in the game, more than any player on the pitch, and also ranked highest in terms of successful dribbles (eight) and key passes (four) (Sofascore).

Nonetheless, it is imperative that Bruno Lage’s team tie him down.

Deadline Day: Wolves expect to keep Traore & Neves

This has the potential to be an extremely busy transfer deadline day for Wolves, with the Old Gold trying to wrap up a few deals.

Renato Sanches could join the Molineux outfit on loan, but perhaps the biggest news comes courtesy of potential outgoings.

What’s the word?

For the entire transfer window, Ruben Neves and Adama Traore have been linked with moves away from Molineux.

Neves had attracted the interest of Arsenal earlier in the window until they decided to hand the divisive Granit Xhaka a new contract.

Traore, meanwhile, had been a target for Tottenham, with the Lilywhites eyeing up a possible loan move plus a future fee. However, according to David Ornstein, it looks as though the Spain winger will be staying in the Midlands.

Taking to Twitter on Deadline Day, the journalist said: “Traore not expected to leave today – would take a massive offer (about £50m) from Tottenham or anyone else to get the 25yo winger.”

Tim Spiers followed that up by suggesting that Neves wouldn’t go anywhere either, tweeting: “To add to what David Ornstein has said, as things stand not anticipating Ruben Neves or Adama Traore leaving today.”

Fans buzzing

If Wolves can keep two of their best players at the club before the deadline shuts, then supporters will have every right to be delighted. After all, without the duo in the side, they’d look significantly worse.

Although Bruno Lage’s team are yet to score a goal in the Premier League this term, Traore has been the beating heart of their offensive play.

He has spurned some tremendous opportunities to score, mainly a one-on-one against Tottenham, but his wing play is simply devastating.

The Spaniard has completed a league-high of 9.3 dribbles per game while amassing four shots and three key passes per match.

As for Neves, he has also started the new campaign in golden touch. After a career-best five goals last season, the Portugal international looks to be improving all the time.

He ran the show in that defeat to Spurs, winning six tackles, producing five key passes and completing 16 of his 19 long balls.

Therefore, to lose two players like that would leave a huge dent in the side. That’s why Wolves supporters must be elated to see them staying put.

As mexidas dele sempre davam certo no Atlético.

Domestic set-up needs a revamp – Imran

Imran Khan believes neither the PCB nor the team that refused to tour can be blamed for the Champions Trophy’s postponement © AFP

Imran Khan, the former Pakistan captain, believes a revamp is needed in the domestic structure of the game in the country, with fewer teams in the fray and a more professional body at the helm.”Pakistani cricket needs to become truly professional; it needs to be made into an institution,” Imran said in an interview to pakpassion.net. “These departments [teams] are a cancer within Pakistani cricket, we need to get rid of them and replace them with a maximum of seven regional first-class teams.” Pakistan’s domestic first-class competition, the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, was contested by 13 regional teams and nine departments [SNGPL, the Gas department, won] in 2007-08.”These teams should be represented by regional associations with elected members and the chairman of the PCB should be someone who is elected by the same regional associations.”Under the current system, Pakistan’s president appoints the chairman of the PCB, one which Imran felt must be done away with. “We need to separate politics and sport. It’s unacceptable for the head of state to appoint the PCB Chairman. This ad-hoc system needs to stop, we need a full-time salaried head of the PCB who is selected solely on merit and not because of his connections. It’s not rocket science, it’s the same system in place elsewhere.”Imran did not, however, blame the PCB for the Champions Trophy postponement, nor the teams reluctant to visit the country. “I don’t think there was anything else they could have done to change the decision that was made,” he said. “The PCB are paying for the mess we made when we joined someone else’s war and made it into our war. Because of that decision we now have a domestic situation that understandably makes other teams reluctant to tour Pakistan. I don’t think we can blame the teams in isolation, they were just following the advice given to them by their foreign offices about Pakistan being a dangerous and unsafe place.”

Wolves interested in Divock Origi

Wolves started their transfer window impressively with the addition of Trincao but their inability to clear players from the wage bill is now hampering them in the markets.

The idea of Adama Traore and Ruben Neves taking their leave has been a concern for a few months now but they’re yet to find new clubs for their Iberian duo.

What’s the word?

One of the primary issues for Bruno Lage heading into the new season should be the fitness of Raul Jimenez.

The Mexican has scored in pre-season, but only time will tell whether he can discover his best form after recovering from a fractured skull.

As such, the Old Gold are in the market for a new striker. Barcelona’s Martin Braithwaite has been on their radar but they’re now interested in another long-term target once again.

According to the Mirror, Wolves want to sign Liverpool forward Divock Origi before the window closes. He was a player they considered back in the winter.

Origi is currently valued at just £10.8m via Transfermarkt.

Swerve a move

Wolves may require extra bodies in the final third in order to lend a hand to Jimenez but they’d be taking a huge gamble on Origi, one that would bring back vibes of Willian Jose.

The big Brazilian signed for the Molineux outfit on loan back in January as cover for their Mexican sensation.

However, he had a turgid time in the Midlands, scoring just once in the Old Gold and failing to link up play to any sufficient level.

They had an £18m option to buy the Real Sociedad attacker but rightfully rejected the chance to do so.

Yet, by landing Origi in the coming weeks, they may just have a player of a similar ilk.

Described as a “monster” by Vincent Kompany, the Belgian super sub has scored some important goals down the years for Liverpool, namely against Barcelona in Europe and then in the Champions League final against Spurs.

That being said, his ability to find goals on a regular basis has to be questioned. Like Jose, his record certainly isn’t the best, but you have to consider his lack of match action.

The 26-year-old has beaten the goalkeeper on 35 occasions in 157 outings for Liverpool and only started two league games in the whole of the 2020/21 campaign.

He might know the English game, but there are better options out there in a window where Wolves are strapped for cash.

Like Jose, this would be a huge risk from Lage and Fosun. They must swerve a deal this summer.

AND in other news, Bruno Lage can seal Wolves masterclass by signing “top-level” £28.8m-rated monster…

Carlton Palmer still expects Sam Johnstone to leave West Brom

West Bromwich Albion are still expecting Sam Johnstone to leave the club despite West Ham United seemingly ending their interest in the goalkeeper, according to Carlton Palmer.

Johnstone has been the subject of interest since the Baggies suffered relegation from the Premier League last term, with West Ham seeing a £10million bid rejected for the England international.

However, it appears as though a move to London Stadium is no longer on the cards as the Hammers have signed Paris Saint-Germain shot-stopper Alphonse Areola on a season-long loan deal, with an option to buy.

West Brom boss Valerien Ismael, who was named as Sam Allardyce’s successor after the former England manager decided against staying at the Hawthorns following relegation, has already admitted he expects Johnstone to leave the club before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.

Ex-Baggies midfielder Palmer believes a cooling of interest from West Ham will not have resulted in Ismael being more confident of keeping Johnstone.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, he said: “Sam is a very good goalkeeper but I think West Brom are in a position where they don’t have to let him go cheaply.

“West Ham tried to get him for £10million. I don’t think West Brom will let him out for less than £20million or £25million. They won’t rest easy until the transfer window is shut.

“I think they would be very lucky to keep Sam because his ambition is to stay in the England squad. Obviously, he will be thinking of the World Cup now and he needs to be playing in the highest league.”

Journalist can envision Wilson in central position at West Brom

West Brom journalist Luke Hatfield has told Football FanCast that he can envision Liverpool’s Harry Wilson in a central attacking role at The Hawthorns this upcoming season.

The 24-year-old’s future looks to be away from Anfield after spending the last few campaigns out on loan.

Last month, Goal reported that West Brom were keen on signing Wilson this transfer window, though they face competition from the likes of Brentford and Portuguese giants Benfica.

Such competition complicates things for the Baggies, but Hatfield can see the club making an effort to sign the £15.3m-rated Wales international and him potentially lining up in the No.10 role.

“He’s an interesting player, Harry Wilson,” the Express & Star reporter said in a chat with FFC. “Loves a set piece, loves a dead ball, obviously gifted at that level [Championship].

“It’d be an interesting one at Albion, because I think in those positions at the moment they’re pretty well stocked.

“It depends on the position Harry Wilson’s willing to play. If he’s played in the central attacking position, then you never know. He may well be a player that they’re eyeing up.”

While Wilson has spent most of his career playing as a winger, mostly on the right-hand side, he has been deployed as an attacking midfielder and second striker (per Transfermarkt). So perhaps it is a role he could fulfil at West Brom under Valerien Ismael in the new campaign.
