Tottenham: Italian paper breaks big Barak transfer development

Italian newspaper Corriere di Verona have now shared a big transfer development out of Tottenham Hotspur involving target Antonin Barak, who they believe is the perfect fit for an Antonio Conte team.

The Lowdown: Conte eyes move…

As Spurs gear up for their highly-anticipated Premier League clash with Arsenal this evening, a make or break encounter which may well determine who is playing Champions League football, it appears transfer activity is still very much alive behind-the-scenes.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-newest-updates/” title=”Tottenham newest updates…” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Czech Republic international Barak, for example, has been of serious interest to Spurs according to reports in recent days.

Earlier this week, outlet Mondo Udinese.it shared news that Lilywhites head coach Conte is personally prepared to convince the attacker to join his side this summer in a ‘sensational deal’.

Now, in an update, it appears the Italian has now given his green-light for whole club to pursue a deal for Barak.

The Latest: Italian newspaper break Barak development…

As per Corriere di Verona (via Sport Witness), the former Chelsea coach has personally ‘asked’ Spurs to bid for the 27-year-old who is ‘tailor-made’ for his side.

This comes as Barak’s move away from the Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium is ‘almost certain’ this summer, but the 6 foot 3 star’s club want around €25 million (£21m) and even hope to exceed that number.

The Verdict: Tailor-made indeed

Barak is perhaps one of the more underrated players in Serie A and we believe £21m would be a more-than fair asking price.

Lauded as ‘phenomenal’ for his international performances by members of the press, he has stood out as one of Hellas’ most crucial players – racking up 11 goals and four assists from midfield over 2021/2022.

Barak also stands out as their third-best star overall going by average match rating and is just about to enter his prime, potentially backing how he could be real value for money if Spurs were to advance with a bid.

Rangers: Campbell reacts to Lowry news

Jordan Campbell has been reacting to the news that Glasgow Rangers youngster Alex Lowry has been rewarded with a new contract at Ibrox.

The lowdown: Fending off suitors

The 18-year-old playmaker has signed a new deal with the Glasgow giants, having impressed in his four first-team outings to date.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst handed the teenager his debut against Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup earlier this year and Lowry found the net after coming off the bench in a 4-0 victory.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/rangers-news-4/” title=”Rangers news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Since then, the Scotland youth international – who has been hailed by his former coach Graeme Murty for his “remarkable” self-confidence – has made his Premiership bow and been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle United.

The latest: Campbell reacts

Taking to Twitter upon the clubs’ confirmation of Lowry’s new contract, Campbell – who is Rangers correspondent for The Athletic – voiced his delight by saying:

“Excellent news for Rangers that they have tied down Alex Lowry on a new deal until 2025. At 18, he’s already shown he has bundles of ability. Should become a more regular presence next season. Important that top talents are retained until they can impact on the first team.”

The extension means that the Uddingston-born starlet will remain with the Gers for at least another three years.

The verdict: Spot on

Whilst the upcoming Europa League final is a sure sign of things moving in a positive direction under Van Bronckhorst following the sudden departure of Steven Gerrard in the autumn, being able to tie down players such as Lowry is a huge positive for the Teddy Bears.

Albeit only a small sample size, the five-cap Scotland under-19 ace has scored three times and provided two assists this season across all levels for Rangers, showing that he can frequently make a difference in the final third.

Furthermore, even tentative links with Premier League big-hitters such as Manchester City would suggest that the teenager is a prodigious talent and one to keep a very close eye on next season.

Wolves eye up Hirving Lozano move

Wolves are interested in signing Mexico and Napoli winger Hirving Lozano in the summer transfer window, according to a latest report.

The Lowdown: Lozano in-and-out at Napoli

The 26-year-old has found himself in and out of Napoli’s team this season, with injuries and illness holding him back at times but the wide man still managing to contribute.

Lozano has chipped in with four goals and assists apiece in Serie A, in just 16 starts, and he has helped them compete in a tense title race with AC Milan and Inter Milan.

The Mexican’s current deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2024, but according to a fresh update, a move to Molineux could be on the cards.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/all-the-latest-from-wolves-3/” title=”All the latest from Wolves!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Wolves keen on move

According to Napoli Today [via Sport Witness], Wolves have been ‘following’ Lozano ‘for some time’, as they weigh up a potential summer move.

The idea of him staying pout at Napoli is ‘not entirely a foregone conclusion’, which further gives Wanderers hope of sealing an exciting signing.

[freshpress-poll id=“388780″]

The Verdict: Audacious swoop by Wanderers

Lozano has proven himself on the biggest stage of all, catching the eye for Mexico at the 2018 World Cup, registering one goal and assist each and standing out with his pace and directness.

For that reason, it is hugely exciting to see Wolves being linked with a move for him and he could be someone who takes their attacking game to the next level in the Premier League.

With Adama Traore likely to leave permanently this summer and Francisco Trincao expected to leave, too, Lozano could fill the void out wide, and much more, becoming the latest attacking hero at Molineux.

Leeds could strike gold with Edwards swoop

Leeds have recently been linked with a move for Arsenal youngster Khayon Edwards, who could follow in the footsteps of Sam Greenwood at Elland Road.

This forms part of The Transfer Tavern’s The Gossip series, where we analyse players based on praise and criticism from past and present.

The Lowdown: Leeds keen on Edwards

The Whites have recently been linked with a move for Edwards and are thought to be in the mix in the race to sign the teenage striker.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-41/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-04-02T155252Z_391313781_UP1EI421841M9_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-SOU-REPORT.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Goal reported that Chelsea have made contact with the 18-year-old, with Arsenal experiencing difficulty in their attempts to secure the forward on a professional contract.

Edwards could therefore leave in a cut-price deal over the summer, with just a compensation fee possibly needed.

The Latest: Greenwood a favourite at Leeds

Victor Orta has previous of bringing a young Gunners striker to Yorkshire in Sam Greenwood, who put in an impressive cameo in Leeds’ 3-0 win over Watford on Saturday.

He appears to be a favourite under Jesse Marsch, who revealed after the victory that the 20-year-old has adapted to his ideas better than anyone.

The Verdict: Edwards to follow suit?

Edwards has been efficient in front of goal this season, contributing to 23 goals in just 22 games, scoring 17, most of which have come for Arsenal’s under-18s.

He is still awaiting a senior debut at the Emirates Stadium, so perhaps he could be interested in a move to Elland Road, especially after seeing the likes of Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt coming through at Leeds and now being viewed as first-team players.

The Gunners youngster has been labelled as a ‘wonderkid’ and ‘prolific’ by an Arsenal news Twitter account, so you can see why the Whites are plotting a move for him. However, they may have to be quick, especially after the Champions League holders made their move.

Antes, nós jogávamos no Maracanã. Infelizmente, aconteceu esse imprevisto. Contra o Madureira, não poderemos jogar lá. Nós estamos buscando (uma solução), mas teremos de jogar fora – afirmou.

Media rave over ‘fantastic’ Man City news

After Manchester City officially announced a new deal for exciting youngster James McAtee, numerous members of the media have shown no hesitation in heaping praise on the club.

The Lowdown: McAtee new deal concerns…

Before the talented teenager eventually put pen to paper on a three-year extension at Eastlands, duly keeping him at the club until 2026, there were concerns that McAtee would leave on a Bosman in 2023, when his previous contract expired.

Murmurs of interest from the Premier League only heightened these worries, especially since the 19-year-old has a glowing reputation from the City academy and has even drawn comparisons with club legend David Silva.

The Sky Blues and sporting director Txiki Begiristain have been tying down many big-name stars to new deals recently, including defender Joao Cancelo, with reports suggesting they are also in talks over fresh terms for Bernardo Silva (Pol Ballus).

As City confirm yet another fresh contract, numerous members of the media have raved over this McAtee development, praising the club for getting it done.

The Latest: Media rave…

Here’s what some journalist had to say on this “great news” out of Eastlands, sharing a variety of takes on this exciting announcement.

“Highly-rated Manchester City midfielder James McAtee signs a new deal keeping him at the club until 2026. Fantastic news, a young player with massive talent and huge potential” – Jonathan Smith, Man City correspondent for Goal (Twitter).

“Cancelo signs a new contract yesterday. Bernardo extension rumours kick in. Haaland rumours go into overdrive and McAtee extends. Bert heaven today.” – Steven McInerney, Man City personality and YouTuber with nearly 60,000 subscribers (Twitter).

“Meant to tweet earlier but good to see James McAtee signing a new deal to 2026 with #mcfc. Got talent in abundance that lad.” – James Ducker, The Telegraph (Twitter).

“Great news for Manchester City.” – Pol Ballus, The Times (Twitter).

The Verdict: Huge…

As Pep Guardiola’s side tie McAtee down with no risk of losing the talented attacking midfielder in 18 months’ time, this certainly comes as huge news.

He has already attracted praise from City’s manager after just three senior outings this season, while McAtee’s performances at youth level have been nothing short of exceptional.

Scoring 14 goals and setting up seven others over 15 Premier League 2 appearances for City’s Elite Development Squad, the sky appears to be the limit for McAtee, and it’s little wonder Begiristain has moved quickly to get this deal wrapped up well before the summer.

West Ham interested in Gleison Bremer

Pete O’Rourke has dropped a teasing transfer claim concerning West Ham United’s interest in a deal to bring Gleison Bremer to the London Stadium.

What’s been said?

In recent comments made to Football FanCast, the transfer insider revealed that David Moyes’ side, who had been heavily linked with a move for the Torino centre-back in the buildup to the January transfer window, have indeed been keeping a very close eye on the situation of the 24-year-old ahead of a potential swoop – with the Serie A side reported to be demanding a figure of around €30m (£25m) in order to part with the Brazilian.

Speaking about the interest in Bremer, the journalist told FFC: “He’s a player who has been linked with the Premier League before, West Ham and Liverpool have looked at him.”

Fans will be buzzing

Considering just how much West Ham have struggled defensively following the loss of both Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna to injury, the news that the Hammers are closely monitoring potential centre-back targets – particularly one with the ability of Bremer – in the January transfer window is sure to have left the London Stadium faithful buzzing.

Indeed, over the seven fixtures in which Moyes has been without his first-choice centre-back pairing, the Irons have lost three games and conceded 11 goals – form which could well prove to be extremely costly for the club’s top-four chances once the sides currently below them in the table have played their games in hand.

As such, it is clear to see that the Hammers are in desperate need of greater depth in the heart of their defence, with Bremer appearing to a make fantastic addition to the 58-year-old’s current options at the London Stadium.

Indeed, over his 20 Serie A appearances so far this season, the £18m-rated defender has helped his side keep five clean sheets, as well as making an average of a colossal 3.5 interceptions – the most of any player in the Italian top-flight – 1.6 tackles, 3.8 clearances, 37.3 passes and winning 6.4 duels per game.

The £18k-per-week centre-back – who is also adept at playing left and right-back – has also chipped in for his side going forwards, scoring two goals and registering one assist, as well as taking an average of 0.8 shots and making 0.3 key passes per fixture.

These returns have seen the Brazilian average a highly impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.17, ranking him as I Granata’s second-best performer in the league.

As such, it would appear that a move for Bremer would be highly advisable one for Moyes to make this winter, as the 6 foot 2 colossus would undoubtedly be an adequate replacement for Ogbonna – and perhaps even a better long-term option than the 33-year-old Italian.
