Everton’s in-demand midfield star Joe Williams looks like one to watch

[ad_pod ]This article is part of Football FanCast’s In The Pipeline series, which takes a look at some of the most promising young talent either linked with clubs or emerging from their academies…A good old fashioned pre-season friendly is always a good way for a young star to catch the manager’s eye, whilst the majority of the senior stars make their way back to action in drips and drabs after international commitments and what not.On that note, Everton youngster Joe Williams took his chance with both hands in the Toffees’ friendly against Kariobangi Sharks. On a day where Marco Silva’s side somewhat embarrassed themselves against the Kenyan Premier League side, Williams made sure he was noticed.Thogden challenged himself to DM 100 footballers on Instagram. Find out who replied in the video below…A humiliating moment saw the Merseysiders go a goal down, but Williams’ excellent low free-kick under the wall caught the keeper off guard as it nestled into the net.

You can see why some clubs have been lodging bids for the 22-year-old.

The 5 foot 10 midfielder has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Goodison Park, with unnamed Bundesliga sides and Championship outfits bidding for his services.

Silva was keen to take a look at Williams and wanted to take him on the pre-season training camp in Austria last summer, but a knee injury meant that the former captain of the Under-23s was sidelined instead.

Williams has been with Everton since the age of seven, and at the age of 22 you would feel that he is running out of time to impress. To add some context, Richarlison is also 22 years of age, and look where he’s at.

However, his excellent display in the 4-3 loss to Kariobangi Sharks on penalties should mean that he is a player to keep an eye on for Silva and for the Everton supporters.

He clearly has something about him given the amount of interest in his talents this summer.

Perhaps after seeing how Borussia Dortmund have made another young English star in Jadon Sancho a £90m-rated England international, the Toffees would be wise to stick a buy-back clause in any deal they agree to for Williams.

Just in case.

Spurs reportedly agree to loan move for Ceballos

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to the broad strokes of a loan agreement to sign Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid, per AS, via Sport Witness.

What’s the word?

Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The midfielder, who won the European Under-21 Championships with Spain this summer, is expected to step away from Los Blancos.

Indeed, Real are said to be targeting one of Manchester United’s Paul Pogba or Spurs’ Christian Eriksen this summer, which is likely to push Ceballos even further down the club’s pecking order.

He does not want to leave the club on a permanent basis, however, with Marca reporting that he would rather go out on loan.

And AS, via Sport Witness, now claim that Spurs have agreed to take him on a short-term basis, though they have only agreed to the outline of the deal, “opening negotiations” and yet to decide any official details.

There is no mention of a fee being involved and it appears that there has yet to be any talks with the player himself over possible wages or whether, indeed, he wants to move to north London, indicating that a completed deal is still quite far off.

A win-win

This would work brilliantly well for Spurs.

Ceballos is an immensely talented midfielder with a high ceiling – he has already won six senior caps for Spain at the age of 22 and won the Player of the Tournament award at the European Under-21 Championships in 2017.

He is capable of playing through the middle, on both flanks and in defensive midfield.

However, he has made just 56 appearances for Real and a move to north London, where he could work under Pochettino, would be a win-win.

Firstly, he doesn’t leave Real on a permanent basis and the door remains ajar for him to return and make an impact; secondly, he works under an elite coach who can help him progress as a player and thirdly, Spurs don’t have to pay a massive transfer fee.

The Premier League club have already signed Jack Clarke from Leeds United and Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon.

Adding Ceballos into that mix would make this a very exciting summer indeed for Spurs.

Look at him now: Roberto Martinez and Everton

Roberto Martinez is a man who has divided opinion throughout his career; is he a brave connoisseur of the beautiful game or a clueless hopeful out of his depth? Well, amid big links in regards to the Spaniard of late, our latest instalment of the Look at him Now feature will delve into his journey to try and discover the answer.

Well, one thing is for certain: you can’t accuse him of being boring.

Roberto Martinez is a man who demands a, shall we say, certain brand of football. And when we say ‘certain brand’, what we truly mean is a top-heavy attacking bonanza, where everyone and their nan in thrown forwards in a gung-ho-style push that would put World War I military tactics to shame.

Naturally, such an emphasis on attacking play left the defence open for a shafting on more than one occasion, and shipping 50+ goals in two consecutive seasons a result wasn’t exactly something fans were particularly keen on, especially given the plucky efforts they’d become accustomed to in years gone by.

There was also the feeling that Martinez was never really willing to adapt his philosophy and beliefs or devise a backup plan to which he could turn to when his go-to methods weren’t cutting the mustard.

After three years in charge, the Spaniard was eventually released from his duties following Everton’s 3-1 defeat against Premier League champions Leicester City and 3-0 midweek shocker against Sunderland. Not to mention the semi-final losses in the FA Cup and the League Cup the very same season.

To be quite honest, anyone who loses out to the Black Cats by that amount deserves to never get another job in the game. But to our surprise he did. And it wasn’t just any old role. Oh no. It was the holy grail of managerial appointments.

Indeed, you’d be lying if you didn’t pinch yourself when you woke up to the news that Roberto Martinez had been gifted the Belgium national post to command some of the most gifted players in world football.

Likewise, you’d do extremely well to convince us that you didn’t try to gnaw your own arm off when you learned that he had recently been linked with the Barcelona job which was supposed to be free for the taking, before Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu put a stop the rumours by confirming that Ernesto Valverde will return as manager.

Everton fans, what are your standout memories of Roberto Martinez? Let us know in the comments below…

Bernardo Silva wins strangest superstition of the season

Judging by this post he seems to think keeping the Christmas tree up all year has helped to land City three trophies this year.

The 24-year-old was superb this season and has gone from rotation option to one of the first names on the team-sheet in the space of a single campaign.

The Portuguese international is sensational on the ball but his work rate and immense popularity saw him win Manchester City Player of the Year voted for by the fans of the club.

One of City’s most famous fans, Noel Gallagher, named Silva as his favourite City player at the moment, and it is easy to see why.

Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…

The diminutive midfield-schemer is one of Pep Guardiola’s hardest working players, making on average 1.4 tackles per game and 0.7 interceptions.

While going forward the former-Monaco man is deadly too – in 51 appearances he scored 14 goals and set up a further 13.

All of this, coupled with his infectious personality, strange quirks and now this latest little superstition, and it’s not hard to see why he is quickly becoming the out-and-out fan favourite at the Etihad.

Wilfried Zaha’s departure could re-balance Palace’s home and away form

[ad_pod ]

With survival achieved this season at the earliest point since they returned to the Premier League in 2013, Crystal Palace have a number of players to thank for that achievement.

Vicente Guaita has been a huge boost in net, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been immense at right-back and Wilfried Zaha has been up to his usual tricks.

The Eagles number 11, having said outright that he wants to play Champions League football, could be out the door this summer after another impressive campaign – a departure that would shake Selhurst Park to the core.

However, there is at least one positive for Palace fans to consider.

On the chalkboard

Zaha brings bags of pace, strength and flair to Palace’s attack and he is the main reason why the SE25 outfit are seen as one of the most dangerous counter-attacking teams away from home. They have beaten Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and nearly got the better of Liverpool at Anfield – results that put them second in the table based on away form in the last 10 games.

However, it isn’t the same story at home, with the Eagles sitting in a lowly 17th place and taking just nine points from their last 10 at Selhurst Park.

With an atmosphere that’s the envy of the Premier League, Palace should be making their home ground a fortress, not taking it with them on their travels.

How, then, can Zaha’s departure re-balance their polarised form both home and away?

Blessing in disguise

Roy Hodgson’s side is built to do damage on the counter and, when on their travels, the Eagles sit back a little more and allow their hosts to have possession – this ultimately allows them to get the best out of the threat they have on the break, to which Zaha is crucial.

Currently, Palace’s plan A both away from and at home is to give the ball to the talismanic winger and let him do what he does best but, without him, their ability to hit teams with speed is significantly weakened, meaning that they will inevitably pick up fewer points on the road.

There’s some exciting changes happening at Crystal Palace next summer. Find out what in the video below…

At Selhurst Park, though, it would see them think of other avenues to attack and create.

This would benefit the likes of Christian Benteke, who would see a lot more crosses headed his way with Zaha no longer there to chop back inside and win penalties.

With Hodgson surely forced to completely change his side’s approach with Zaha out of the picture, Palace fans could see their team pick up more results at SE25 next season should the Ivorian seek pastures new, thus re-balancing their home and away form.

Ultimately, season ticket holders pay their money to see their team get results at home and Zaha’s departure could see them finally get value for their hard-earned cash.

Crystal Palace can surely get more than £33 million for Wilfried Zaha

Crystal Palace are yet to really reach their full potential in the current campaign as they’ve struggled to ensure consistency, with a positive result often being followed by a negative one.

This season could have been a whole lot better for the Eagles if they had strengthened appropriately back in the summer transfer window, as they had to wait until January to put things right.

One player who’s been influential in helping the Eagles enjoy some success in the second half of the season has been Wilfried Zaha, as he’s taken his tally to eight goals and eight assists.

Interestingly, the Englishman is reportedly valued at £33 million (as per CIES, via Daily Mail), which surely must be some kind of joke as he’s done more than enough to warrant a fee of at least £40 million.

Zaha is arguably one of the best attackers in the Premier League as his pace and skill has caused some of the Premier League’s best defenders problems. And, his eight goals and eight assists show that he can actually produce in the final third, which has helped Palace massively in the current campaign.

The last thing Palace fans would want to see is him depart this summer but if he was to go they’d surely want a bigger fee than £33 million, as he still has his best years ahead of him and his contributions have been priceless.

Rangers fans react as Liverpool name Kent price

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to the latest on Ryan Kent, as it appears Liverpool are trying to price the Gers out of a permanent move.

According to The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are seeking in excess of £12m for Kent this summer.

The young winger moved to Ibrox on loan last summer, and has made an excellent impact with five goals and nine assists during his debut campaign, including the winning assist in the Old Firm in December.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

The Daily Record have also claimed they know what Liverpool’s asking price is, stating a bid of around £8m to £10m could secure his services, and that Steven Gerrard would love to sign him.

Either way, that is an awful lot of money to invest in a position where the Gers will have Glenn Middleton, Eros Grezda, Jamie Murphy and Jordan Jones all competing for playing time next season.

Gerrard of course worked with Kent at Liverpool, so it would not be a huge surprise to see him pull the trigger if the Reds drop their price, but anything around the £10m mark feels excessive.

That’s exactly how fans feel too, and you can check out some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
