Arsenal fans hail Hector Bellerin as eight-year-old comments emerge

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal fans on Twitter are absolutely lapping up a video posted by the club’s official account on Monday, celebrating right-back Hector Bellerin on his 24th birthday.

In the eight-year-old video, a baby-faced Bellerin was talking after first moving to the Emirates Stadium from giants of his homeland, Barcelona.

The then-16-year-old discussed how he wanted to be the best right-back in the world in ten years’ time, 2021, two years away.

However, the bulk of the Gooners who replied to the popular post believe the Spanish international has already achieved that aim and is the best right-back in the world ahead of schedule.

Whilst one fan modestly commented about how Bellerin is already up there in terms of the top right-backs in world football, a wave of others flocked to Twitter to tell the La Masia product that he is indeed the best.

Sheffield United fans react to McGoldrick display vs Georgia

[ad_pod ]

David McGoldrick was one of the Republic of Ireland’s key men to make a difference against Georgia in the nation’s 1-0 win on Tuesday night.

As such, he earned various plaudits from Sheffield United fans who were kept up to date with his progress via Twitter.

Also gaining praise was defender Enda Stevens who helped his country keep a clean sheet. The pair’s performance led one fan to exclaim he couldn’t believe his eyes that Sheffield United had both of them.

Another fan was quick to praise McGoldrick for what they thought was a man of the match performance.

The striker has been among the goals for his club side this term, netting 12 times with the Blades sitting in second in the Championship.

McGoldrick is a recent signing at Bramall Lane, arriving on a free last summer after being released by Ipswich.

Here’s what Sheffield United fans have been saying about the 31-year-old…

Rangers fans react as Liverpool name Kent price

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to the latest on Ryan Kent, as it appears Liverpool are trying to price the Gers out of a permanent move.

According to The Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are seeking in excess of £12m for Kent this summer.

The young winger moved to Ibrox on loan last summer, and has made an excellent impact with five goals and nine assists during his debut campaign, including the winning assist in the Old Firm in December.

Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below…

The Daily Record have also claimed they know what Liverpool’s asking price is, stating a bid of around £8m to £10m could secure his services, and that Steven Gerrard would love to sign him.

Either way, that is an awful lot of money to invest in a position where the Gers will have Glenn Middleton, Eros Grezda, Jamie Murphy and Jordan Jones all competing for playing time next season.

Gerrard of course worked with Kent at Liverpool, so it would not be a huge surprise to see him pull the trigger if the Reds drop their price, but anything around the £10m mark feels excessive.

That’s exactly how fans feel too, and you can check out some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Opinion: Arsenal’s interest in Villa flop Veretout is pathetic

[ad_pod ]

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a move for ex-Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout.

What’s the story?

According to French outlet Le Foot, as reported by TEAMTalk, Arsenal are eyeing Veretout as a possible replacement for the outgoing Aaron Ramsey.

Ramsey of course will join Juventus at the end of this campaign, despite being one of the Gunners’ better performers for most of the season.

The north Londoners tried to sign Veretout way back in 2014, and the report claims they are now considering a €30m (£25.9m) move.

Pl>ymaker FC Exclusive: Jermaine Jenas reveals he would have snubbed Tottenham for Arsenal if they’d come knocking in 2005…

Simply not good enough

There is no doubt Veretout has improved since flopping at Aston Villa. The all-action Frenchman has become an important part of an improving Fiorentina side, scoring 15 times in 68 games from defensive midfield.

At 26, he is extremely intelligent, reads the game well and sprays the ball around wonderfully.

However, this is a player who has only ever played in England once, and he was truly awful, and for every Mohamed Salah that comes back to the Premier League and turns his career around, there are a hundred more who don’t.

In 25 Premier League showings for Villa, Veretout failed to find a goal and managed just 1.3 tackles per game, an extremely low rate considering his side were dominated in nearly every match that season, a season that ended in relegation.

He is versatile enough to play Granit Xhaka’s position or Ramsey’s, but despite his improvement he is nowhere near the quality of Ramsey, particularly in attacking areas.

Quite simply, Veretout will not budge Xhaka or Lucas Torreira from the base of midfield and he is just not good enough to walk into the starting XI and replace Ramsey.

Arsenal fans better hope this is a late April Fools joke, because if £25.9m on this deal is what the club sees as good business then it’s going to be a very long summer.

Southampton fans will have inevitably changed their tune on Jordy Clasie

[ad_pod ]

When it comes to Southampton’s transfer business, most talk about the players who have departed St Mary’s rather than those who have arrived and perhaps Jordy Clasie is partly why.

The Dutchman crossed the channel to Southampton in 2015 and was billed as the midfielder to fill the void left by Morgan Schneiderlin, who made the switch to Manchester United in the same window, however it hasn’t gone quite that way for Clasie.

After two pretty mediocre years at Southampton, the 27-year-old was loaned out to Club Brugge and then returned to Feyenoord, who he is currently playing his football with, on a temporary basis last summer.

Why should Southampton be more like Dortmund? Find out in the video below…

With his future up in the air after a bust-up with manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Clasie will surely be hoping that he can resurrect his Southampton career upon returning to St Mary’s at the end of the current campaign. However, if he can’t play his way into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s good books, then these Southampton fans, who were elated by the deal at the time, will have changed their tune for good:

Shockwave: Chris Waddle to Sheffield Wednesday

1992 was a landmark year in sport.

Linford Christie became only the third ever athlete from the United Kingdom to win the 100-metre final at the Olympics in Barcelona whilst Denmark shocked the world by winning their first ever major honour at the Euro’s, defeating world champions Germany in Sweden.

Yet despite these historic moments, Sheffield Wednesday supporters will undoubtedly remember 1992 for the arrival of Chris Waddle from Olympique Marseille.

After winning the Ligue 1 title on three consecutive occasions with Les Phoceens, the winger returned to the top flight of English football as one of the nation’s biggest stars and he soon demonstrated his magnificent ability for the Owls. During his debut season at the club, Waddle played on 55 occasions and provided the experience needed for his team to thrive in the cup competitions as they reached the finals of the League Cup and the FA Cup.

Unfortunately for Wednesday, they met an Arsenal side managed by George Graham on both occasions. A 2-1 loss in the League Cup was replicated by the same scoreline in the FA Cup, although the latter was achieved by the Gunners via a replay after the original tie ended in a draw at Wembley Stadium.

Despite their defeats, Wednesday had allowed their supporters to dream once again and with Waddle in the side, they went onto to finish in seventh place in both the 1992/93 and 1993/94 campaigns. The following two seasons saw the Owls struggle in the Premier League as the absence of the former Marseille midfielder due to a number of injury problems impacted his side.

After making 147 appearances for the club over a period of four years in which he scored 15 goals, Waddle was surprisingly released by then-manager David Pleat in 1996. Spells at Falkirk, Bradford City and Sunderland followed yet the midfielder failed to reach the same levels that he had demonstrated during his time at Wednesday.

The achievement of reaching the FA Cup final in 1993 remains to this day the last time that the Owls have made it to a major domestic final. Since the turn of the century, the club’s form in England’s cup competitions has seen them fail to make it past the semi-finals, illustrating just how special their run was 26 years ago.

Although ultimately he didn’t win any silverware at the club, Waddle provided Wednesday supporters of a certain age with two moments that they will always remember and therefore is still regarded as a hero amongst many at Hillsborough.

Liverpool: Virgil van Dijk has been brilliant, but he’s no player of the season

If Liverpool are to win the Premier League this season, they will have Jurgen Klopp and Virgil van Dijk to thank for it.

The signing of van Dijk has been one of the best bargains in football this decade, which is impressive considering the Dutch international remains the most expensive defender in history.

His physicality and style turned Liverpool from a solid top four side to genuine title contenders overnight, but despite his impact on the Reds, he shouldn’t be labelled as the ‘Premier League Player of the Season’ just yet.

There’s no doubt that van Dijk has been the best defender in the Premier League this season by a country mile and has been amongst the best performing players in the league, but to call him as the ‘Player of the Season’ when there is still six games of the season left to go is a stretch.

The title race is yet to be concluded, and run-in for a Champions League place has only just started, and players are and have been performing on par with van Dijk, mainly Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling of Manchester City, are also in contention for the Player of the Season award.

The trio will likely be the favourites for the award, and if you are to argue who will likely be the player to get the accomplishment come award season you can make a good case for either of the City players claiming the prize.

We live in an era where defenders are the underrated stars, but in van Dijk Liverpool have a defensive superstar who has taken the Merseyside team from potential league chasers to genuine title contenders, and if the Reds can make it to the end of the season still top of the pile and unbroken by the pressure, the former Southampton man will emerge as the favourite for Player of the Season.

Liverpool fans, will van Dijk win Player of the Season? Let us know!
