Sturm Graz set for imminent talks to sign "prolific" youngster from Arsenal

A European club have set their sights on bringing on signing a young "prolific scorer" from Arsenal this summer, and they're set to open talks over a deal this week.

Arsenal set for summer sales to bolster transfer kitty

The north Londoners, after just missing out on the Premier League title to Man City for the second consecutive campaign, now turn their attentions to the summer transfer window in a bid to reinforce Mikel Arteta's ranks.

It has been reported that the Gunners and sporting director Edu want to bring in a new goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward (Simon Collings) – with new arrivals potentially coming in across the first team.

Aaron Ramsdale is likely to leave Arsenal after becoming Arteta's second choice keeper behind David Raya, with Edu rumoured to be targeting a replacement. Elsewhere, Arsenal have been heavily linked with Turkey and Fenerbahce full-back Ferdi Kadioglu, with some reports even claiming they've agreed personal terms.

In midfield, Edu is apparently ready to sell Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah to fund a move for Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes – who could well come in to replace Thomas Partey as uncertainty surrounds the Ghanaian's future.

Gabriel Jesus has also been linked with an Arsenal exit in recent weeks, so Arteta and the board are not exactly short of sale nominees to bolster their kitty this summer. Edu, speaking to the media recently, says the club's summer transfer process has been thought out since January.

"You can’t sign players for the sake of signing," said Edu on Arsenal's transfer plans.

"This has to be a process that takes weeks and weeks. There on my desk, I have reports with more than 180 pages on a player. It’s really detailed stuff. Physical, technical, mental profile, if you have Premier League experience, if you will be able to adapt. It has everything.

"We analyse our weaknesses, where we can improve, where we can invest and then we go in search of that new name. What I am going to do now, we have been discussing since January. It’s not my decision or Mikel’s alone. It belongs to a whole group."

Sturm Graz set to open talks with Arsenal over Mika Biereth this week

Another player who could collect a fee to enhance Arsenal's summer activity is 21-year-old forward Mika Biereth.

The Dane has enjoyed a stellar half-season loan at Sturm Graz over the last few months, scoring nine goals and bagging a further four assists. Called a "prolific goalscorer" by Standard Sport, the outlet claims Sturm Graz are set to open talks over signing Biereth permanently this week.

The young attacker signed from Fulham in 2021, but hasn't yet been handed the nod by Arteta – instead going out on loan to RKC Waalwijk, Motherwell and Sturm Graz during his time at the Emirates.

Sterling will love him: Chelsea in talks to confirm "incredible" manager

As of right now, the Chelsea board will be working tirelessly to find the perfect replacement for Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine left the club last week after just one season in charge, which is without doubt a bold decision by Todd Boehly that could cause plenty of backlash.

However, one of the positives of bringing in a new coach is that it would provide an opportunity for some of the struggling players to revive themselves.

One of those is Raheem Sterling, who would massively benefit from a new manager, especially one who plays attacking football.

The latest on Chelsea's hunt for a new manager

As per a report from The Athletic, Chelsea are eyeing a move to make Enzo Maresca their next boss.

It’s reported that the Italian has new become one of two options for the club, with Thomas Frank also in contention for the job.

Leicester manager Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea’s appointment strategy is to find the next best promising manager who can lead a rebuild of the club rather than sign a ready-made boss.

Maresca fits that profile down to a tee, and considering he’s just 44 years of age, he’s the definition of the up-and-coming coach that Chelsea are after.

The latest, according to the Guardian's Jason Steinberg, is that talks happened over the weekend.

Some reports even claim that Maresca, or whoever the Blues decide as their next boss could be in place within the next 24-48 hours.

The Chelsea player who could benefit most

Chelsea’s highest-paid player, Sterling, certainly hasn’t justified his colossal £325k-per-week salary since leaving Manchester City in 2022.

Unfortunately, even though Pochettino was able to take his goal tally from six last season to eight this time around, the England international has been unable to nail down a first-team spot.

Chelsea’s number ten started 22 times in the league last campaign, but towards the end of the season, he lost his place in the side to Mykhalo Mudryk.

Yet over the course of the term, Sterling did show glimpses of his former self, and the arrival of former Manchester City coach Maresca could just help him return to his very best.

As you can see, the winger joined the Blues as one of the most consistent goal scorers in the Premier League, who often stepped up when his side needed him most, hitting double figures every season from 2017 to 2022.

His run from the 2017/18 campaign to his final season was absolutely incredible, and a player of that pedigree doesn’t just lose their ability to find the back of the net.

Given that Maresca’s style of play is possession dominant, where off-the-ball movement is imperative to the team’s success, Sterling should feel right at home, as it mirrors the side he thrived in under Pep Guardiola. After all, the Foxes boss was the great manager's number 2 for a period of time.

Furthermore, Leicester’s joint-second-highest scorer in 2023/24 was Stephy Mavididi, who operates on the left wing just like Sterling, highlighting that his system is tailor-made for the 29-year-old.

Leicester winger Stephy Mavididi.

Furthermore, the "incredible" boss, as dubbed by Harry Winks, has transformed plenty of declining players this season at Leicester, including Jamie Vardy, Jannik Vestergaard, and the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, which indicates he could get a similar response from the Englishman.

Overall, it’s quite clear that Sterling still has a huge role to play at Stamford Bridge under the right boss, and you can already picture the forward and Cole Palmer combining to replicate his previous relationship with Kevin De Bruyne.

Arsenal enquire about signing £75m star who’s "very similar to Saka"

One game to go, just one more match, and we'll know whether the Premier League title is staying in Manchester or coming to North London for the first time in two decades.

Mikel Arteta's young Arsenal side have proven once again this season that they are the real deal, and regardless of the title's ultimate destination, they are here to stay and challenge Pep Guardiola's juggernaut for some time to come.

Alongside Sporting Director Edu Gaspar, the Spaniard has helped to transform the North Londoner's squad with impressive additions like Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, and Kai Havertz, but one player who could use some real competition is Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka

The club poster boy has been the first name on the teamsheet for several years now, but based on recent reports, he could soon have the perfect teammate to push him to new heights.

Arsenal transfer news

According to a recent report from former BBC journalist Ibrahim Sannie Daara, Arsenal have enquired about the availability of West Ham United sensation Mohammed Kudus ahead of the summer transfer window.

While this is certainly exciting news for the Arsenal faithful, the same report also revealed that Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain have all done the same thing, while Liverpool are set to trigger the Ghanaian's £75m release clause in the coming weeks.

There is a lot of competition for the Gunners to overcome in this transfer battle, but with the club on the precipice of lifting major honours, they might be able to sell themselves better than the Reds.

Moreover, while Kudus could come in as a Saka challenger, his positional versatility could also see him take over from Kai Havetz as the number nine, replace Leandro Trossard as the long-term leftwinger, or even move into the midfield to partner Martin Odegaard.

Ultimately, it will be a tough deal to complete, but for £75m, the club should fight tooth and nail for it.

How Kudus could fit in at Arsenal

Now, there are several ways Kudus could come in and make Arsenal a better team. The first is as a serious challenger to Saka.

According to respected data analyst Ben Mattinson, the former Ajax ace is "very similar to Saka" in that he has an immense impact on games from the right, assisting his teammates and scoring goals himself.

For example, in just 20 starts on the right side of the attack this season, the "generational" forward, as described by journalist Gary Al-Smith, has scored 13 goals and provided one assist, meaning he is averaging a goal involvement every 1.4 games – an output similar to Saka's average of a goal involvement every 1.3 games from his 20 goals and 14 assists in 47 appearances.

However, what sets the Hammers star apart is his versatility. While he would likely come in to challenge the Englishman for that place on the right, he would also be able to play in multiple other positions, keeping the rest of the team on their toes and adding a new dimension to the North Londoners.

For example, in 42 appearances as a centre-forward in his career, the Accra-born sensation has scored 14 goals and provided three assists, meaning he averages a goal involved as the number nine once every 2.4 games. This isn't far off Havertz's return of a goal involvement every 1.9 games as a striker, coming from his return of 36 goals and 12 assists in 95 starts.

Finally, while the 23-year-old has played on the left a few times in his career and could, therefore, challenge the likes of Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, his considerable experience playing in attacking and central midfield roles could allow him to flourish as a more attacking midfielder alongside Odegaard.

For example, in 46 games as a central midfielder, the 5 foot 9 ace has scored 11 goals and provided three assists, while in 44 games as an attacking midfielder, he's scored 12 goals and provided six assists, meaning he averages a goal involvement every 3.2 and 2.4 games, respectively.

Ultimately, it would be an expensive deal to complete, but signing Kudus would provide the club with a star who would genuinely challenge Saka. Moreover, his ability to start almost anywhere on the pitch would give Arteta a level of tactical freedom not offered by any other player.

Chelsea now keen on signing £6 million ace who Maresca called "fantastic"

Chelsea are now keen on signing a £6 million player who new manager Enzo Maresca has publicly called "fantastic", with the Italian set to have a role in the club's summer transfer policy.

Chelsea begin summer transfer plans as Maresca arrives

Putting pen to paper on a five-year deal with the option of a further year, Maresca was officially announced as Mauricio Pochettino's replacement in the Chelsea dugout on Monday this week.

The former Man City coach and Pep Guardiola understudy joins Chelsea after winning the Championship with Leicester City last season, having secured them automatic promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Maresca has already sealed his first signing as Chelsea head coach with the arrival of defender Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, who makes the move across west London to Stamford Bridge after completing his medicals on Tuesday (Fabrizio Romano).

The Blues have been tipped for a busy summer window amid Maresca's arrival, with Chelsea eyeing a new goalkeeper, potentially another centre-back and a goalscoring striker to hand Maresca's side that extra potency going forward.

“Maresca believes in the Chelsea project around young players with a big future, he thinks it is a really exciting project," wrote transfer journalist Romano in a piece for CaughtOffside recently.

"Meanwhile, Chelsea are convinced he’s a super talented coach and that’s why he’s a name appreciated by both directors and owners, all convinced he can be the man for present and future.

"It will continue to be a busy summer at Chelsea. It won’t be completely crazy but they will try to make smart things happen, including a new goalkeeper and I expect them to try for at least one new centre-back, but it could be two. I also expect Chelsea to be busy with the striker position, and I mentioned many times Benjamin Sesko, who is highly rated at Chelsea but also by others like Arsenal and Manchester United.”

Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez is highly rated by Maresca, but it remains the case that the club could still elect to bring in an alternative in that department.

Chelsea keen on signing Leicester City keeper Mads Hermansen

As per The Athletic, Leicester City keeper and Denmark international Mads Hermansen is a candidate to come in. Indeed, Maresca is said to be a big fan of Hermansen with Chelsea keen. The 23-year-old, signed by Leicester for around £6 million from Brondby last summer, worked under Maresca as his first-choice shot-stopper for 2023/2024.

Brondby goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

"I said many times, he’s a human being and can make a mistake," said Maresca on Hermansen last season.

"Daka can make a mistake missing a goal. Jamie can make a mistake. All the players. But unfortunately when you make a mistake as a keeper, you concede a goal. I have no problem at all. For me Mads was fantastic in the second half. He was not nervous but the people in the stadium were more nervous than him, for sure. But what I said to him: ‘Second half, when we play with you, if you play long, you go out. Continue in the same way.’ He showed personality. He continued to play short.”

Chris Cooke digs in to steer Glamorgan to safety on final day
