Many Southampton fans have slammed the performance of Jan Bednarek in their 1-0 win away to Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

In the closing minutes, he was turned all too easily by Ashley Fletcher, whose shot was brilliantly clawed away by Alex McCarthy to preserve victory for Southampton (Sky Sports).

It has led to some fans calling for summer signing Lyanco to come into the starting line-up instead of Bednarek, as they want to see more of their new recruit.

O elenco do Flamengo voltou ao trabalho em treino na manhã deste domingo, no Ninho do Urubu. O lateral-esquerdo Renê fez um trabalho físico à parte dos demais atletas. Ele ainda está em recuperação de uma entorno no tornozelo direito, sofrida no dia 19 de agosto, na vitória de 2 a 0 sobre o Atlético-GO. Nas fotos divulgadas pelo clube, foi possível conferir o camisa 6 se exercitando com cones e dando toques na bola.

Os jogadores participaram de um treino físico e também de uma atividade técnica no gramado. Antes, eles fizeram musculação na academia. Alguns atletas levaram familiares ao CT.

Everton could look to find Jonjoe Kenny a new club in the January transfer window, according to The Liverpool Echo. 

The lowdown

Kenny started both of Everton’s Carabao Cup ties – the 2-1 win at Huddersfield Town and the penalty shoot-out defeat at Queen’s Park Rangers – but has featured for just 10 minutes in the Premier League this season.

Benitez has been more inclined to use Ben Godfrey, a predominant centre-half, in the right-back position when Seamus Coleman has been unavailable.

Kenny’s £15,000-per-week contract expires in the summer, and the former Celtic and Schalke loanee has seen his estimated market value fall to £5.22m.

The latest

The Liverpool Echo journalist Adam Jones wrote that the January window can be a good opportunity to offload players who are entering the final months of their deals. Kenny is in that position, with his long-term Everton future ‘seriously under doubt’.

While the 24-year-old does ‘provide useful back-up at right-back’, according to the report, he seems to be out of favour with Rafael Benitez at this moment in time.

The verdict

It’s pretty damning that Benitez has favoured Godfrey in an unnatural position over Kenny, and it suggests that the latter should be packing his bags.

If he remains at Everton, his only real opportunities to play first team football in 2021/22 could come in the FA Cup, barring a major injury crisis in defence.

Having been labelled ‘unbelievable’ by former Toffees team-mate Aaron Lennon when he first broke into the senior team, Kenny’s failure to hold down a regular first team place since the 2017/18 season suggests that he hasn’t been able to kick on under a succession of managers at Goodison Park, so it would be no great surprise if he does cut his ties with Everton altogether for the betterment of his career.

A big twist has emerged on Rangers’ search for a new manager, regarding former Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman

What’s the talk?

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the Dutchman is ‘one step’ away from taking over at Ibrox to replace Steven Gerrard in the dugout.

The report claims that he is the favourite for the position, following Sky Sports’ claim that Gio van Bronckhorst has held positive talks with the club.

This marks a remarkable twist in the saga with a new coach suddenly leapfrogging previous candidates to become the favourite.

Elation

Rangers fans will surely be over the moon with this update as it suggests that Koeman could be Gerrard’s replacement at Ibrox. The experienced Dutch coach recently left Barcelona and is available as a free agent, with this report now claiming that he is on the verge of accepting the job to compete for the Premiership title this season.

Supporters would surely love to see him in the dugout as he has an impressive C.V spanning a number of years, whereas van Bronckhorst is still in the early stages of his own coaching career.

The 46-year-old won an Eredivisie title with Feyenoord and averaged 2.03 points per game across 136 league matches for the Dutch club in four seasons, whilst he also spent a short spell in China.

Koeman, meanwhile, has managed 342 Eredivisie games and averaged 2.06 points per match. This included time with Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV and Vitesse and he won three league titles in that time. He has won nine trophies in his career as a head coach, showing that he knows what it takes to win silverware – with more experience in the game than van Bronckhorst.

The ex-Barca man has also experienced coaching in Britain. He finished seventh, sixth and seventh in three full seasons with Southampton and Everton earlier in his career which shows that the 58-year-old has proven himself in multiple countries with several clubs. Van Bronckhorst’s C.V, however, is based on his four years at Feyenoord in his home country.

Therefore, fans will surely be over the moon with the prospect of Koeman becoming the club’s new manager. With all due respect to van Bronckhorst, Koeman has a better background, as shown by his managerial statistics, and could be a terrific appointment for the club as he has a track record of success over a prolonged period of time. It is now down to Ross Wilson to ensure that he can get a deal over the line that would surely elate supporters.
