Desmanche?

IPL auction shifted to February 6

Players will lose 20% of their match fee – on a match-by-match basis – if they don’t find a place in the playing XI from the next season

The IPL has taken some significant steps to protect the interests of its eight franchises, including the addition of a performance clause to its player contracts that will see players lose 20% of their match fee – on a match-by-match basis – if they don’t find a place in the playing XI from the next season. However, this clause will be applicable only to new contracts that will be signed from now on.This was one of the key developments at a meeting, involving franchise representatives and IPL officials, which ended in Bangkok on Sunday. The meeting also resolved to hike the players’ purchase cap from US$5 million to $7 million – this cap will not be applicable to the money that will be spent during a one-month trading window starting December 15 for existing players.”This is a very significant development for the franchises,” sources said. “This means that trading can be done for existing players with absolutely no budgetary limits.”The IPL, meanwhile, announced in a press release that it will hold its next players’ auction in Mumbai on February 6. It had earlier been tentatively scheduled for January 29. The IPL also confirmed that the maximum number of foreign players in each squad has been increased from 8 to 10, though those in the playing XI will stay at four. The meeting agreed to scrap the system of flying in players as temporary replacements, an allowance that saw cricketers like Dwayne Bravo, the West Indian allrounder, make a fleeting appearance in the first season early this year. But in a concession to the teams that had picked such players last time, the press release said that “all teams that had temporary replacements will have the first right to pick those players”.”The extra $2 million to purchase players is essentially for the new auction,” sources said. “This will go a long way in levelling the playing field, especially with many of us expecting the English players to be available. The 10-player cap has also brought clarity to the field because there was an original limit of eight and then it was stretched to nine.”According to the sources, franchise can now offload players during the trading window – with the player’s consent – but they will have to bear the difference to the player in case he is sold for less than his current fee. “On the other hand, if a player goes at an increased price, the difference will be shared by the selling franchise and the player,” they said. The details of this arrangement are not known yet.Franchises have also been assured more visibility on the ground, in terms of in-stadia visibility during matches, “while not infringing on the rights of the central sponsors”.The performance clause, incidentally, is also open to existing players but only if they sign new contracts. “It is doubtful how many of the existing players will agree to sign a new contract,” the sources said. “But the idea behind the move is clear. It is a step for the future and will ensure that the money a franchise pays to a player is linked purely to performance, and nothing else.” As per the previous arrangement, a player only needed to be “fit and available for selection” to be entitled to his full fee.The meeting also heard views from various service providers involved with the first season of IPL to “ensure a better experience allround next time”. “But on the whole the Bangkok meeting was held in an excellent, open atmosphere and it has left the franchises satisfied with the clarity achieved,” the sources said. The 2009 IPL season has been tentatively scheduled to start from April 10.

Celtic journalist drops Ryan Christie future claim

The Celtic Way writer Tony Haggerty believes that Ryan Christie is enjoying his football under Ange Postecoglou and it may result in him staying with the Hoops.

The Daily Record reported that Burnley are interested in Christie and have been admirers for some time. Alex Crook of talkSPORT also reported on his Twitter account this week that Southampton have no interest in Ryan Christie and there is nothing in the rumours linking Stuart Armstrong with a return to the Hoops.

Christie has started this season really well under Postecoglou, featuring in seven matches and scoring one goal and providing three assists.

Haggerty believes that Christie is happy playing under Postecoglou, telling Transfer Tavern: “I think Ange recognises that and I think the player recognises that, you know, there’s no substitute for a happy player.

“If you’re producing, the grass isn’t always greener, you might get the money and there’s no denying that, but will he be happy? Will he play? These are things that players have to weigh-up in their mind.”

Christie current Celtic deal expires on January 1, 2022 and the Scottish Sun reported earlier this month that there have been fresh talks between Celtic and Christie, but the 26-year-old has yet to receive a concrete offer.

After an opening day defeat to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic have improved with back-to-back 6-0 victories against Dundee and St Mirren and are also just 90 minutes away from the Europa League group stages, as they hold a 2-0 lead of AZ Alkmaar going into the second leg of their play-off match.

Jonathan Bairstow has followed in his father’s footsteps by signing a two-year contract with Yorkshire.Bairstow, son of David, the former Yorkshire and England wicketkeeper, turned 19 in September and was the inaugural winner of the 2007 Wisden Schools’ Cricketer of the Year award. He enjoyed a fine 2008 season for Yorkshire seconds, scoring 308 runs at 61.60 in the Second XI Championship, and was understandably delighted in joining the club on a full-time basis.”It’s every Yorkshire boy’s dream to play for this club and to sign my first contract is very special,” he told Yorkshire’s website.”This is where the really hard work starts now, to move on in the professional ranks and do well enough to get into first team contention. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

As mexidas dele sempre davam certo no Atlético.

Baluchistan complete upset win

A round-up of the fourth day of the second-round matches of the Pentangular Cup

Cricinfo staff03-Nov-2008
Scorecard
Baluchistan, historically the weakest of Pakistan’s provinces, quelled a spirited Sind side by six wickets to register their first win since the Pentangular was launched in its revamped format last year. It was a superb comeback after being thrashed by an innings-and-236-runs by North West Frontier Province in the first round.Sind’s batsmen fought back strongly on the third day but Baluchistan fast bowler Abdur Rauf took the two remaining wickets early to leave his side needing 145 for victory. Shoaib Khan jnr gave the chase a quick start with three boundaries before being bowled by Anwar Ali. Baluchistan were on course as they progressed to 96 for 2 before suffering a jolt, losing two wickets, including that of captain Misbah-ul-Haq, for one run.Saeed Bin Nasir, who top scored in the first innings, ensured there were no further hiccups, blasting three sixes and four fours in his unbeaten 44 to seal the win.
Scorecard
Nineteen-year-old Umar Amin made a patient 76 to guide Federal Areas to a four-wicket victory over Punjab. The match was in the balance after the third day; Punjab needing six wickets and Federal Areas 111 runs. The injury to the experienced Bazid Khan and the long Federal Areas tail increased the pressure on Amin: an early wicket would have swung the momentum towards Punjab. However, Amin and Yasir Arafat put on 74 for the fifth wicket to put their side on top. No. 7 Sohail Tanvir smashed a four and a six to take Federal Areas to the brink of victory before falling to fast bowler Wahab Riaz. Jamal Anwar, who had an excellent game behind the stumps, was with Amin when the winning runs were scored.Federal Areas picked up only six points, three less than Baluchistan, because Punjab took the first-innings lead against them.

Hatfield: Wolves could be busy in January transfer window

Express and Star journalist Luke Hatfield thinks that Wolves could be busy in the January transfer window having endured a disappointing deadline day in which they failed to complete deals for Renato Sanches, Boubacar Kamara or Kieffer Moore.

Bruno Lage make six summer signings, with Hee Chan Hwang, Jose Sa, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Yerson Mosquera, Louie Moulden and Francisco Trincao all signing deals at Molineux.

Wolves have had a tough start to the new Premier League campaign as they have lost all three of their opening games by a single goal to nil. Whilst they haven’t registered a point on the board as of yet, the performances have been good and in their most recent match against Manchester United, they were unfortunate not to take at least a point against the Red Devils.

Whilst they were active in the summer window, Hatfield believes that Wolves could be busy in the January window also, telling Football FanCast: “January is always the hardest window to shop in. Clubs don’t want to let players go in the middle of the season, you’ve got to have players who are going to hit the ground running, so it’s a tricky window to operate in.

“Wolves could well be busy in it, but of course it depends on how their start to the season goes. If they have a fantastic start and they find themselves in the top half of the table, maybe challenging for the Europa League places, maybe they’ll think they’re happy with what they’ve got. But equally if they have a poor start to the season, it could spur them into action.”

Wolves manger Bruno Lage will be hoping that his side gels quickly and that they can improve on last season’s 13th place finish in the Premier League table under Nuno Santo.
