Everton head into their final three matches needing maximum points to guarantee themselves a place in Europe next term.

Ancelotti’s men have come close to Champions League football but they will ultimately fall short on that front.

Though, their end to the season is set to be brightened by the return of James Rodriguez to the matchday squad on Sunday evening.

The Colombian has missed the last three games after picking up an unfortunate calf injury in the warm-up ahead of Everton’s clash at Villa Park.

James has struggled for fitness ever since but Ancelotti will welcome him back into the side when they face Sheffield United – that’s according to the Liverpool Echo.

The former Real Madrid star faces a late fitness test but should be fit enough to make the bench at the very least.

The Everton boss commented in midweek: “If the training is good on Friday and Saturday, he will play vs Sheffield United. He is pain-free now, he has no problem.”

With James already missing 11 league matches through injury this term, it will delight Ancelotti to have him back in contention to play.

No player has more assists (9) than the Colombia international for Everton this term while he’s also a player who can provide moments of magic from nowhere.

Any team would miss a player of his calibre so it will be a massive boost to have him back for the run-in.

FFC has already spoken about the need to start him from the off on Sunday but the Toffees must be careful with his fitness. After all, James has a busy summer ahead of him with the Copa America taking place.

Fortunately, the Everton manager has already factored this in as they plan his usage over the course of the year.

Speaking earlier in the week, Ancelotti said: “We have to do a specific programme we are doing right now, in the last period, to avoid this kind of problem.

“His history said that he had a lot of problems with his calf in the past, when he was in Bayern, we had to work hard to do more prevention on this.”

Having had a hand in 15 goals this term, his numbers are impressive for someone playing out their first campaign in English football.

Without him, they have been devoid of creativity. Gylfi Sigurdsson has managed just three key passes in the last four matches and hasn’t registered an assist since the beginning of March.

Therefore, to have a player who simply oozes creative class back in the side will please Ancelotti no end.

Former Everton star Michael Ball has told The Transfer Tavern that the club will have to pay through the nose to sign Norwich City right-back Max Aarons this summer.

The Toffees have been heavily linked with a potential summer move for the England U21 international.

Aarons has been in brilliant form for Norwich thus far this season, as the club have won the Championship title at a canter.

He has made 45 Championship appearances this season, scoring two goals and laying on five assists.

The Independent have reported that Everton are keen on a swoop, and that he would cost around £30m to sign this summer.

Ball believes that Carlo Ancelotti’s side have been tracking Aarons for some time, and will have to make a decision on whether they are willing to invest heavily to bring him in, as a long-term replacement for Seamus Coleman, or sign a budget option.

He told TT: “I think Everton have come quite strongly for Max Aarons. I feel they’ve probably been looking at Max Aarons for the last 18 months or so, wanted to bring him to the football club.

“Norwich, rightly so, want top dollar. Everton need to try to figure out how they’re going to prioritise that position and whether they’re going to look at a cheaper option for the next year or two years.”

Quanto a este ser o seu melhor ano da carreira, é um risco dizer, pois pode-se esperar tudo de Cristiano Ronaldo. Mas, não dá para negar que teve um 2016 muito melhor do que Messi.

رفع أوليفر جلاسنر مدرب آينتراخت فرانكفورت راية التحدي للفوز على برشلونة في مباراة ربع نهائي الدوري الأوروبي بعد إعلان نتائج القرعة اليوم الجمعة.

فرانكفورت أقصى ريال بيتيس الإسباني، ليفوز 3-2 في مجموع المباراتين في دور الستة عشر.

يحتل ريال بيتيس المركز الخامس في الدوري الإسباني ويحتل برشلونة المركز الثالث، مما ألهم جلاسنر للتحدي قبل مباراة الذهاب على أرضه في 7 أبريل القادم.

وقال جلانسر في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “سبورت” الإسبانية: “سأقولها بصراحة وبشكل استفزازي، إذا كنا تأهلنا وتخلصنا من صاحب المركز الخامس في الدوري الإسباني، يمكننا أن نفعل الشيء نفسه ضد صاحب المركز الثالث، برشلونة من أهم الفرق الأوروبية”.

يصر جلاسنر على أن فريقه في فرانكفورت سيلعب للفوز على برشلونة ويصل إلى دور الأربعة فيما ينتظر الفائز في ربع النهائي بين وست هام وليون.

What’s the word?

Last summer, 90min reported that the Irons were one of several teams eyeing a move for Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham, whilst over a year ago, it was thought that the two were in advanced talks over a transfer, as per Foot Mercato.

The 25-year-old joined Ligue 1 outfit Marseille during the January transfer window after they failed to secure Hammers star Manuel Lanzini, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

It appears that his future at Parkhead is in serious doubt, if not already over. Celtic are set to terminate his contract a year early, meaning he would be available on a free transfer this summer.

And now it has been revealed by the ever-reliable ExWHUemployee that the Frenchman is represented by a familiar figure, Will Salthouse, who also has the likes of Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell, Craig Dawson and Ryan Fredericks on his books.

Squad depth option

Now that the season is done and dusted, and the unthinkable has been achieved, it’s time for David Moyes and the club’s hierarchy to move on with plans ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 58-year-old has transformed the East Londoners from firm relegation candidates to sealing a place in Europe in the space of just one year.

However, if the Irons go into battle next season as they are, they could well struggle due to the lack of rotation options at Moyes’ disposal.

For instance, the Scotsman is just one injury to Michail Antonio away from not having a senior striker and this is a similar case right across the squad, with the Hammers lacking depth in midfield and in defence.

If Ntcham is available for nothing, then it could be a very shrewd decision to swoop for him, especially given his ties to a reliable figure in Salthouse.

Things have not gone to plan for the Bhoys midfielder at Marseille, where he has averaged an abysmal rating of 6.13, whilst L’Equipe rated one of his performances a brutal 3/10 back in March (via The Sun).

But, truth be told, his stint at the Stade Velodrome was hampered from the minute he walked through the door as then-manager Andre Villas-Boas resigned because he did not want the player.

It wasn’t too long ago that Ntcham was being touted as a £7m target for Premier League teams, whilst current Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has always been a fan of his, having described him as a “terrific talent” in 2018.

Even Neil Lennon lauded him as “one hell of a player” during his time in charge of the Glasgow giants, so to get him for nothing would be a steal.

Another body in midfield is certainly needed this summer as next season will be Mark Noble’s final campaign in the claret and blue, with Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice the only other two out-and-out central options available to Moyes.

Ntcham won’t be expected to pull up many trees but is surely a worthwhile candidate to consider. He’s set to be available for nothing and Salthouse could well do GSB a major favour.

It shocked the entire Black Country as well as the whole of the Premier League when Nuno Espirito Santo announced he would be leaving the club this summer. It’s something even Wolves legend Steve Bull couldn’t believe.

Fans were able to give Nuno a good send-off after their game against Manchester United at Molineux as 10,000 Wolves supporters said their final goodbyes to the man who got them out of the Championship and into the Europa League within two seasons.

Fans are obviously feeling a bit empty and sad that he is leaving with some even hanging a huge flag from the Iron bridge in the Midlands wishing Nuno goodbye, good luck and a thank you for everything he achieved at Wolves.

Nuno only signed a new contract at Molineux in October 2020, however, that did nothing to stop him parting ways with the club, something Bull can’t get his head around as he explained exclusively to Football FanCast:

“I know that the night before he was happy as larry and was absolutely fine, but then the next morning I was getting loads of texts saying he had left.”

The early frontrunner for the job is former Benfica manager Bruno Lage who was also Carlos Carvalhal’s assistant coach at both Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City.

Wolves will have to be careful who they appoint as Nuno’s successor because after a poor season this year which saw them finish 13th in the Premier League, a bad manager could see them tumble towards the bottom three next season.
