Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is set to be recalled to the England starting line-up for this evening’s UEFA Nations League clash against Belgium, as per Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old, often first choice for both club and country, sat out Thursday’s 3-0 friendly win over Wales but is expected to return between the sticks at Wembley today.

Pickford’s club colleague Robin Olsen, who joined the Toffees on loan last week, is also set to feature for his country as Sweden face a Nations League double header as their first-choice netminder – which could set up a duel between the two to be selected by Carlo Ancelotti for Saturday’s Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

The case for Pickford

Pickford is Ancelotti’s current first-choice goalkeeper, having started in every single Premier League game so far this season, as per Transfermarkt.

The 26-year old is arguably more comfortable on the ball than Olsen, as he averaged more accurate passes (18.7) per league game last season compared to the Sweden international’s 15.4 in the Serie A, and also averaged more touches of the ball (40.7) per match to Olsen’s 35.2.

Pickford has also averaged two saves a game in the Premier League so far this term, while Olsen has no previous experience of playing in the division.

The case for Olsen

However, the England goalkeeper is prone to mistakes, with his most recent blunder coming against Brighton last weekend, where luckily for him it did not prove costly as the Toffees ran out 4-2 winners in the end.

Pickford was not able to hold onto the ball and thus gifted the opportunity for Neal Maupay to tuck home an equaliser for Graham Potter’s team toward the end of the first half, which earned him a lot of stick from Everton supporters.

This is not the first time that the 26-year-old has made a mistake which has led to a goal in the Premier League either, as he was culpable for four errors leading to goals in the division last term, according to Sofascore.

Olsen is not as error-prone as Pickford, as the 30-year old made zero mistakes leading to goals while playing in Serie A in 2019/20.

International displays may play a part in Pickford/Olsen decision

Pickford faces Belgium at home and Olsen plays Croatia away in the UEFA Nations League today before England are at home to Denmark and Sweden travel to Portugal in midweek.

Both players may be fighting for a starting spot in the derby as the look to impress for their respective national sides.

West Brom’s lively second-half showing at the AMEX Stadium saw Slaven Bilic’s side snag a point late on thanks to a strike from summer signing Karlan Grant.

He didn’t go into the campaign as a first-choice option nor was he one last season, but Conor Townsend is seriously starting to cement his name down as Bilic’s number one left-back option.

The 27-year-old hadn’t played in the Premier League until his start against Chelsea but going by this latest display, you wouldn’t know that.

Per SofaScore, Townsend recorded three tackles, two clearances and one interception. He also won seven duels, both aerially and on the ground, had 97 touches and made one key pass.

Prior to kick-off, he was dealt the hard task of keeping young wing-back Tariq Lamptey at bay and given the former Chelsea prospect recorded the Seagulls’ lowest rating (6.3), he evidently did his job to a tee.

Lamptey lost possession 21 times, won just 42% of his duels and failed to record a single accurate cross or even a successful dribble despite five attempts.

Townsend was tough and industrious, thus making it seem like Kieran Gibbs has an impossible test to break back into Bilic’s plans, especially as he’s not featured since his sending off against Everton.

In the past, the Baggies faithful have been fully against Townsend featuring in the starting XI, once dubbing him a “huge liability” during a game last season.

The former Hull City man is fully vindicating the faith put in him by his manager.

وأعلن كيميش أنه يرفض تلقي لقاح كورونا، وأكد تبرير اختياره في تصريحات نشرها الموقع الرسمي لشبكة “يورو سبورت”، وقال: “ليس لأنني أعارض التطعيم، الأمر يعود إلى أسباب شخصية”.

لكن بينما يواجه بايرن ميونخ نظيره بوروسيا مونشنجلادباخ في كأس ألمانيا الأربعاء، أثارت تصريحاته بعض المفاجآت في البلاد.

مفاجأة أكثر أن لاعب خط الوسط الدفاعي البالغ من العمر 26 عامًا أطلق حملة “We Kick Corona” (فلنركل كورونا) العام الماضي، في خضم الوباء، بصحبة لاعب دولي ألماني آخر، وهو زميله ليون جوريتسكا، من أجل جمع الأموال للجمعيات الخيرية التي تقاتل ضدها.

وقال توماس مولر، زميل كيميش في بايرن ميونخ: “كصديق، قراره محترم للغاية، لكن بصفتي زميلًا في الفريق، إذا ألقيت نظرة على ما يمكن أن يكون أفضل للجميع، فإن رأيي هو أنه ربما يكون التطعيم أفضل بالنسبة له”.

كان كيميش أيضًا محل لانتقادات من المجتمع الطبي، وقال توماس ميرتنز، رئيس اللجنة الدائمة للتحصين في معهد روبرت كوخ (STIKO): “جوشوا كيميش هو بالتأكيد خبير عندما يتعلق الأمر بكرة القدم، لكنه ليس كذلك عندما يتعلق الأمر باللقاحات والتطعيم”.

يعتبر كيميش من بين الأقلية من اللاعبين المحترفين في ألمانيا الذين لم يتم تطعيمهم، وفقًا لكريستيان سيفرت، رئيس الرابطة الألمانية لكرة القدم (DFL)، 94٪ منهم بالفعل تلقوا اللقاح، ويتم تحصين حوالي 66٪، أو ثلثي السكان البالغ عددهم 83 مليون نسمة، بشكل كامل.

أما كارستن راميلو، نائب رئيس اتحاد اللاعبين الألمان دعم كيميش، وأفاد: “إنه قرار كيميش الشخصي، ويجب أن يظل كذلك”.

ولجنة الأخلاقيات الألمانية أكدت أهمية احترام القرار من خلال صوت رئيسها ألينا بويكس: “القرار الخاص لكيميش، حتى لو ندم، هو لم يستخدم منصاته للحصول على نصائح أفضل حول كيفية أن تكون نموذجًا يحتذى به”.

وقال هربرت هاينر، رئيس نادي بايرن ميونخ: “يجب أن نحترم قرار كيميش، لكن لا يوجد تطعيم إجباري، وعلى المرء أن يحترم قرار الآخرين”.

أثار وضع اللاعب ردود فعل حتى داخل الحكومة الفيدرالية. في المستقبل، وأعلن المتحدث باسم المستشارة أنجيلا ميركل، ستيفن سيبرت: “آمل أن يكتشف ذلك بنفسه ويسمح بمعرفة جميع المعلومات المتاحة عن اللقاحات المعتمدة في الاتحاد الأوروبي”.

وحث كيميش على التطعيم، لأن نجم بايرن، حسب قوله: “كيميش شخصية ينظر إليها الملايين من الناس على أنه نموذج يحتذى به”.

Lots of Everton fans have been flocking to a training photo of Niels Nkounkou that was posted by the official Twitter page of the Goodison Park faithful.

The France U19 international can be seen training with the first-team squad ahead of their game versus Southampton away from home in the Premier League.

Nkounkou has been limited to just three matches in the EFL Cup so far in the 2020/21 term, and has yet to make an appearance in the top flight (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, the 19-year old will be hoping to get his chance to impress Carlo Ancelotti, and it seems as if several EFC supporters have been impressed with what they have seen of him so far.

Upon Nkounkou’s arrival at the Toffees, Marcel Brands described him as ‘a young, talented player with good technical and physical skills,’ which is high praise indeed from the Director of Football at the Blues.

أكد خوان كارلوس جاريدو، المدير الفني الأسبق للنادي الأهلي، أن المارد الأحمر هو المرشح الأول للفوز ببطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا، كاشفًًا أسباب عدم اكتمال مفاوضات فريق المصري البورسعيدي للتعاقد معه.

وقال جاريدو في تصريحات تلفزيونية بفضائية “تن” عبر برنامج “البريمو”: “أتابع مباريات الدوري المصري من وقت لآخر وأعلم تمامًا قوة البطولة وخاصة في وجود الأهلي والزمالك وبيراميدز، وتابعت أيضًا فوز الأهلي بلقب دوري أبطال إفريقيا للمرة الثانية على التوالي”.

Liverpool travel to the Etihad on Sunday afternoon hoping to re-establish themselves at the top of the Premier League table with a win against Manchester City and Jurgen Klopp certainly has some big decisions to make with regards to his starting team.

Arguably the trickiest decision the German manager will have to make is whether or not to start Portuguese winger Diogo Jota after his electric start to life at Anfield, or whether Roberto Firmino will get the nod.

Jota continued his fine form since joining the Reds from Wolves this summer by scoring a superb hat-trick in the midweek thrashing of Atalanta, taking his Liverpool tally to seven in just 10 games (per WhoScored). 

Firmino meanwhile, has been a staple of Liverpool’s front three over the past few years and Klopp argued recently that the Brazilian has been a big part of the Merseyside club’s success in recent years, so his influence cannot be underestimated.

However, the former Hoffenheim man has just one goal in all competitions so far this season, so if Klopp were to base his starting XI on form alone, surely Jota should start ahead of him in the attack?

Here’s how Football FanCast thinks Klopp will line his side up at the Etihad…

The one other change we feel the former Borussia Dortmund boss should make is selecting Joel Matip to start alongside Joe Gomez at centre-back.

The Cameroon international is back in training after recovering from a recent injury problem and will add a lot of experience and height to Liverpool’s backline.

Although Nathaniel Phillips was an excellent deputy in Liverpool’s win against West Ham last week, with Jamie Carragher awarding the 23-year-old the man-of-the-match award, Manchester City are a very different proposition to West Ham, and we feel that the £28.8 million-rated defender is the more likely option in this game.

Other than bringing in Matip, there are unlikely to be too many changes from Klopp, with regulars Andy Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Gomez all starting in defence.

Gini Wijnaldum’s energy could be vital in midfield, so we feel that he will get the start but unfortunately, this game may come too soon for summer signing Thiago, as he only returned to training recently.

Captain Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita should start alongside the Dutch international in midfield, with the Guinea international replacing the inexperienced Curtis Jones, whilst unsurprisingly, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will most likely start alongside Jota in the Reds’ front three.

It will be interesting to see how Klopp sets his team up for an important game at the Etihad.
