Andre Gomes returned to the starting lineup for Everton as they beat West Ham United and registered their first win in the Premier League since September 1.

Whilst Gomes was out injured, the Toffees lost all four of their Premier League matches and slid towards the relegation zone in his absence. Now that the Portugal international has returned Everton have finally secured three points and moved into 15th, though they are just five points shy of 5th place Arsenal.

Both of Everton’s wins in the last seven weeks in the league arrived with Gomes in midfield – a fact that underlines the extent of his importance to the squad.

Against West Ham, Gomes registered an impressive 7.1 rating and made more passes than any other Blues player with 37 completed at an 80% success rate.

The 26-year-old also managed to make one tackle and control the midfield with his 62 touches throughout the game – only the full-backs Lucas Digne and Djibril Sidibe had more. The £22m summer signing also managed to complete six out of eight long balls at Goodison Park and made two interceptions.

Throughout the fixture, the former Barcelona man looked at home in the midfield alongside Tom Davies, and the two may end up forming a partnership under Silva that could keep him his job on Merseyside.

The former Watford man has been under immense pressure in recent weeks and in light of the defeat at Burnley he was reportedly handed three games to save himself from the axe. With three points secured from one of those games, the centre-midfielder is already proving to be a vital man in saving Silva’s job at Everton.

Time will tell if the 42-year-old stays with the Blues, but if he is going to go progress the club this season, Gomes looks like he will be an essential cog in his system.

Some QPR fans have taken to Twitter to express their concerns over the defence, following the 2-2 draw against Reading on Tuesday night.

Mark Warburton’s side conceded their 22nd and 23rd goals of the campaign against the Royals, who are unbeaten since Mark Bowen stepped into the hotseat on the 14th October.

The R’s remain the only side in the Championship yet to keep a clean sheet after 13 league games, which is an extremely worrying statistic to say the least.

The Londoners have no problem scoring goals, having scored 23 in 13 games – the same amount as they have shipped, but no other side in the top 14 have conceded more than 20.

Warburton’s men have scored the joint second-most goals in the division alongside Fulham, but only bottom-placed Barnsley have conceded more – their is a real imbalance between defence and attack at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

Liverpool fans are concerned with the lack of form of Joe Gomez and believe he needs to improve quickly if the team is to cope without Joel Matip.

The Cameroon international has been ruled out for up to six weeks and Gomez could be in line to start against Arsenal on Wednesday, possibly alongside Dejan Lovren as Virgil van Dijk is also a doubt with a dead leg.

That could fill some supporters with worry, as the Croatian has failed to impress recently, too. The Reds have only kept three clean sheets from 17 games this term as well, which suggests it is an area of the team that requires improvement.

Gomez impressed last season prior to his long-term injury, and his form was rewarded with multiple call-ups to the England squad.

However, he has struggled since his return, and was at fault for some of the goals conceded in a disappointing display against RB Salzburg.

أفادت تقارير صحفية إسبانية، أن نادي برشلونة لا يمانع رحيل البرتغالي فرانسيسكو ترينكاو، خلال فترة الانتقالات الصيفية المقبلة.

Former Forest man Kenny Burns believes that Tiago Silva can be a driving force for Nottingham Forest this season, having put in a really impressive performance away at Kenilworth Road.

What’s he said?

Speaking in his usual column for Nottinghamshire Live, Burns pointed out that Silva brings something different to the game, making comparisons with his compatriot Joao Carvalho.

“He has a greater impact on the game and not only is he much more consistent than Joao Carvalho, he’s also got a tackle in him, unlike his compatriot. If you didn’t know that one of the Portuguese lads cost £13m and the other didn’t, you’d think it was Silva – he’s a different class.”

Constant chopping and changing

It’s true that Silva had a good game against Luton Town, completing 26 passes for an average of 84% (via WhoScored), but he is just one example that if someone is good enough to be in the team, they need to stay there.

He has played in all 14 games for Forest this season, but only starting eight of them. The problem with Forest is that there doesn’t seem to be one set team. Whilst those methods seemed to work very much in his favour during their ten-game unbeaten run, it’s a system that can’t be sustainable through the season. Eventually, Lamouchi has got to come up with his best side, and get a settled one together. A change every now and then is fine to deal with injuries/suspensions/rest, but to do it every week would just be asking too much of the players.

Making his first start in the Premier League, Brandon Williams arguably could not have enjoyed a much better outing for Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The 19-year-old has been one of the main beneficiaries of first-choice left-back Luke Shaw being ruled out of action, and has now already made seven appearances for the first-team.

Against Brighton at the weekend, the teenager produced an impressive display for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, providing a useful presence going forward, whilst still remaining on top of his defensive duties.

As per Sofascore, he won five duels, made four tackles and also contributed one key pass, and was perhaps unlucky not to get on the score-sheet thanks to a Mathew Ryan save.

After seeing his display against the Seagulls, United fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the academy product.

Many supporters of the Manchester side hailed the teenager’s performance, and insisted that could well spell the end of Luke Shaw’s time at the club.

Some Red Devils fans simply raved about his showing, with one fan in particular claiming he has “already eclipsed Roberto Carlos’ career”.
