It’s going to be tough for Grealish to improve on the last 12 months, but if he helps the Villans to a good cup run or plays a huge part in a good league finish it will certainly come close.

When a Twitter account linked to Football London news on Tottenham Hotspur posted about the club’s reported interest in striker Vedat Muriqi on Tuesday night, it was gate-crashed by loads of Fenerbahce fans with some outrageous demands.

Turkish media outlet Sabah reported earlier this week that the north London outfit were keeping tabs on the 25-year-old, who only signed for the Istanbul giants this summer, and had scouted him during Kosovo’s 2-1 win against the Czech Republic at the weekend.

The centre-forward’s reputation likely went up even further given his display in his nation’s 5-3 defeat against England at St Mary’s on Tuesday, when he scored one and assisted two on a crazy night on the south coast.

Fenerbahce supporters responded to the post about Spurs’ interest following the final whistle of that game, and they weren’t afraid to offer some quite ridiculous proposals should Mauricio Pochettino want to sign him – including needing €200m as well as giving them Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane as part of the deal!

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has praised Wilfried Zaha’s “mature” attitude following his failed attempt to force a move away from the club this summer.

The Ivory Coast international handed in a transfer request amid interest from Arsenal and Everton, although the Eagles rebuffed all offers for their star man and managed to keep him at Selhurst Park.

The 26-year-old has since appeared in all four of Palace’s Premier League games so far this term, with three of those coming as starts, and Hodgson has spoken glowingly of his attitude.

What did he say?

The 72-year-old told Sky Sports: “The unfortunate thing for Wilf is that offer did not come his way from the sort of club that he would want. I think Steve Parish has made that clear to Wilf and they’ve thrashed that side of it out.

“As a result it is not a major problem for me with Wilf coming back, having accepted the situation. The way he works here is just the same as it was. Since the first day, he has been mature about it.”

Agrees with Gary Cahill and James McArthur

The former England manager’s words on Zaha echo two of his players’ thoughts on the situation.

James McArthur and Gary Cahill have already shared their views on the whole situation surrounding Zaha’s transfer antics, and both players seem at ease while also praising the Ivorian’s reaction.

McArthur said that his teammate’s attitude has been ‘amazing’ since the end of the transfer window, whilst also stating that Zaha is ‘fully committed’ to the Palace cause.

He stated: “At the time he felt that he wanted to go but I must say his attitude has been amazing since he has come back. He has accepted it and is fully committed to the squad, the team and the fans.”

Cahill, a summer signing, echoed those views. The 33-year-old said: “He’s been great, his attitude has been very, very good.”

The media and others on the outside can discuss the topic all they want, but when two players who work with the forward on a day-to-day basis speak of how well he has handled the situation, as well as his own manager, that speaks volumes about the academy graduate’s maturity.

The start to Garry Monk’s reign at Sheffield Wednesday couldn’t have been more perfect after his new team picked up all three points at local rivals Huddersfield, but now attention turns to Fulham this weekend.

Scott Parker’s side have hit a rough patch early in the season, failing to win in their last three matches and their latest 1-1 draw with West Brom will have them baying for blood following a late equaliser.

Only one point separates the two in the Championship so you would imagine this will be a well-contested affair.

The Owls’ new leader can make things easier for himself not only for this game but for the remainder of the season provided he can cut out one of Wednesday’s major faults.

On the Chalkboard

No team in the league concedes more fouls than Wednesday – they average 16.3 per game.

On the face of it, that doesn’t appear to be a problem as they are merely one point off a playoff spot.

But it has the potential to be a big issue if it isn’t ironed out soon enough, especially as their defence will be somewhat makeshift in the immediate future.

Skipper Tom Lees faces a spell out through injury, leaving Monk with a dilemma – one that saw him move Dominic Iorfa into the centre against Huddersfield despite being primarily a right-back.

Sam Hutchinson is also able to play there too.

Several of the team’s defensive-minded players are at fault for this statistic, and when you concede fouls, you give the opposition a chance from a dead-ball situation whether that be a close-range free-kick or from a crossing situation.

Hutchinson is the worst culprit averaging 2.7 fouls per game and right-back Moses Odubajo is close by with 2 per match while Iorfa averages 1.7, via WhoScored.

Lees actually concedes the least in the team at 0.2 per game so that goes to show how significant a loss he could potentially be.

To ensure a smoother first season at the helm, this is one of the key things Monk must iron out.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has been discussing his side’s fortunes without the talismanic Lyle Taylor.

The Montserrat international – who is one of the Championship’s top scorers with five goals to his name – looks set to be missing for around two months after picking up an injury on international duty recently.

In his absence, the Addicks have lost games against Birmingham and Wigan while also failing to find the back of the net even once – the south Londoners are definitely struggling without their No.9 up front.

What did he say?

Bowyer told The News Shopper: “He’s a big part of us, but he’s not everything.

“We have good players. Tomer (Hemed), he’s looking sharper, fitter and stronger, but we have to give him game time, he’s getting better.

“Macauley (Bonne), he’s working hard and improving, his movement’s better, his hold up play and general play, his finishing, it’s all getting better.

“We’re moving in the right direction regarding Lyle’s replacement. We miss him, but we’ll be OK I’m sure.”

Motivating words won’t paper over the cracks

It’s pretty simple – Charlton were excellent with Taylor in the side, and they’ve been fruitless without him.

The aforementioned record with the 29-year-old in the team and the one without him in the side is pretty damning, and while Bowyer is an excellent man-manager and a great motivator, he can’t rely on what he’s done in the past with improving players in the time Taylor is out.

His comments sound as if he is trying to instil belief and faith into his other players, but the Addicks boss has to find a solution beyond those means.

Whether that means changing to a 4-3-2-1 instead of a 4-3-1-2 formation, or handing summer signing Macauley Bonne a chance – he’s been given just two substitute appearances so far – Bowyer must look for a solution other than to heap praise on players and pray they improve.

That seemed to work in League One, when he took over a side sitting 9th with one win in their last eight games, but the Championship is a different animal.

Losing a striker with five goals in six games would hurt any side, let alone a newly-promoted one, so Bowyer simply needs to step up beyond praising his other players and find someone or something that can cover Taylor whilst he is out injured, whether that be a player who hasn’t featured much thus far or a totally new system.

وأردف إبراهيموفيتش: “علينا أن نعود أقوى في الدوري الإيطالي، ونتعلم من أخطائنا ونستمر في التحسن، أريد أن ألعب من أجل الفوز بشيء ما، نحن في المركز الثاني ويجب أن نستمر على هذا المنوال لمحاولة الفوز بالسكوديتو”.

وأكمل: “إذا وصلنا إلى دوري الأبطال، فهذا أمر رائع أيضًا، لكن الهدف هو الفوز باللقب، لا يمكنني قول أي شيء عن الموسم المقبل، كل ما أعرفه هو أنني هنا في الوقت الحالي”.

وأتم إبراهيموفيتش: “يؤمن الفريق بما يفعله، لقد نمت عقليتنا، هؤلاء اللاعبون لن يقبلوا الهزيمة حتى في التدريبات، وهذا شيء شجعته”.
