Manchester Originals have been discussing a short-term deal for Nicholas Pooran, who plays for their new joint-venture partners RPSG Group’s IPL franchise, Lucknow Super Giants.Southern Brave, where the GMR Group are taking over, are working on a deal to bring in Faf du Plessis, who they signed in November for the IPL franchise they co-own, Delhi Capitals. Rashid and Pooran’s deals are particularly notable because they played for other Hundred teams last year: Trent Rockets and Northern Superchargers respectively. Rashid was the first pick at the Hundred’s inaugural draft back in 2019 and has been retained ever since, but is instead moving to The Oval.”The point of the direct signings was to attract high-end, better-quality overseas stars and I can only see it as a positive,” Daryl Mitchell, the chief executive of the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) told ESPNcricinfo. “There will be regulations in place, but there are always going to be relationships in cricket – long-standing ones in some cases.”Mitchell said it was “par for the course” for players to extend their links with global franchises, though he encouraged the ECB to pay close attention. “The way that players move has been going on in cricket for a long time. The ECB has raised top men’s salaries from £125,000 to £200,000 for 2025 to ensure that the Hundred can compete with MLC and the CPL (which overlaps) for talent. The PCA criticised incremental increases to lower salary as showing a “lack of respect” for domestic players in December and are pushing for further increases when new owners are fully ensconced in 2026.The moves represent the latest step in a gradual shift towards a global contracting network in the T20 franchise world, though others will play against teams affiliated to their own IPL franchise. Trent Boult, who has played for several Reliance teams, has signed for Birmingham Phoenix, while David Miller, Pooran’s LSG team-mate, is set to join Northern Superchargers.The same dynamic is not yet affecting English players, who cannot move directly from one team to another without relying on the uncertainty of the draft. But the ECB have previously told prospective investors that they may be able to lock in England players on multi-year contracts in future years, meaning some could move teams based on their associations with IPL franchises.Players have represented franchises across multiple leagues ever since Kolkata Knight Riders made the unprecedented move to buy the Trinidad and Tobago CPL team a decade ago. Kane Williamson was announced as the Spirit’s new men’s captain this week, and his deal also covers a stint with Middlesex, who are MCC’s tenants at Lord’s. Some host counties are keen for closer alignment in personnel with their Hundred teams, both in domestic and overseas players, which Mitchell believes has already started to happen.”The reality is that over the last four or five years, there are probably elements of county players aligning with Hundred teams,” Mitchell said. Is that likely to continue? I’d have thought so. The host counties are potentially going to be in control of the budgets of both the county and the Hundred teams as well.”Mitchell said the PCA’s priority is to ensure that players retain confidence that Hundred squads will be picked on merit. “Over the next 12-18 months, it’s about making sure there are guard-rails in place to make sure players are picked on performance and that everyone’s got a fair shot of getting an opportunity.”The ECB will retain overall control of the Hundred but is forming a new committee with representation from each franchise, which will discuss issues like recruitment. There is a growing expectation that the draft could be tweaked or revamped after this season, with an open-market system and an auction both raised as potential alternatives.The influence of new owners in recruitment has largely been confirmed to the men’s Hundred so far, with the women’s franchise circuit still in a nascent phase. Amelia Kerr (Manchester Originals) and Laura Wolvaardt (Southern Brave) were both confirmed as direct signings last month, with the Originals also retaining Beth Mooney.

According to The Boot Room and journalist Graeme Bailey, Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton attracted serious interest from N17 at one point.

As per their information, Tottenham and Palace held discussions about Wharton during the two clubs’ lengthy summer dialogue — where they also spoke about Manor Solomon joining Oliver Glasner’s side on loan and, of course, Eze.

In the final weeks of the window, Spurs and Man United apparently asked about the “generational” 21-year-old’s situation, but neither Palace nor the player were interested in entertaining the move.

Levy would have to smash Tottenham’s transfer record for a deal to happen as things stand, but Wharton will be hoping to put his recent injury problems behind him by justifying that price tag and battling his way into Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad for 2026.

أوضح رئيس برشلونة، خوان لابورتا، رأيه في إمكانية فقدان النادي لملكيته الجماعية وانتقاله إلى نموذج الشركات المساهمة الذي تتبعه أندية أخرى في أوروبا مثل مانشستر سيتي وباريس سان جيرمان.

وتحدث لابورتا عن موقفه الحازم من هذه الفكرة، مؤكدًا أن الوضع القانوني لبرشلونة يشكل درعًا يحميه من الوقوع تحت سيطرة جهات خارجية.

ودافع لابورتا عن القيم الإنسانية لبرشلونة، قائلاً في تصريحات نشرتها صحيفة “سبورت” الإسبانية: “نعم، يمكننا أن نكون أكثر من مجرد نادٍ في عام 2025، نحن نادٍ عالمي حافظ على جوهره التأسيسي، الذي يُعرّف بأنه أكثر من مجرد نادٍ، وفخرنا بجذورنا الكتالونية، وفي الوقت نفسه، القدرة على استيعاب وفهم جميع أنماط تفكير جماهير برشلونة”.

وأكمل: “لا يمكنك فصل الجانب الرياضي عن الجانب المؤسسي أو التمثيلي، برشلونة مؤسسة، ولا يمكن التعامل معه بمعايير تجارية بحتة، فالأمر أكثر تعقيدًا من ذلك، يجب إدارة برشلونة بكفاءة مالية وإدارية، نعم، لكن مع حساسية خاصة تجاه القضايا الرياضية والاجتماعية”.

واسترسل: “المفتاح لإدارة كل هذا معقد، ولا يمكن فصله إلى أجزاء مستقلة، عليك أن تجمع بين معايير مبنية على أسس اقتصادية، وأخرى تتطلب حسًّا إنسانيًا واجتماعيًا أكبر، وجميعها يجب أن تتعايش بانسجام تام”.

وحول مخاطر أن ينتهي الأمر بنادي برشلونة في يد صندوق استثماري ويتحوّل من نادٍ مملوك لأعضائه إلى شركة رياضية مساهمة، أوضح لابورتا: “بسبب وضعنا القانوني، من الصعب جدًا أن يتم استغلال برشلونة أو السيطرة عليه من قبل جهات خارجية”.

وأتم: “تلك الدول التي تمتلك صناديق استثمارية تهتم بالاستثمار في الأندية، لكن في حالة برشلونة الأمر معقد للغاية، نحن نسعى إلى إقامة علاقات من خلال رعاية تجارية، لا من خلال المساهمات في رأس المال، لأننا لسنا شركة مساهمة، نحافظ على مسافة واضحة من هؤلاء المستثمرين المحتملين، ونرسم خطًا فاصلاً لا يمكن تجاوزه”.

Birmingham City completed the summer transfer window with one of the highest quantities of arrivals in the Championship, despite being quite a way off the highest expenditure.

Tom Wagner and Tom Brady oversaw permanent transfers, loan moves and free agent arrivals for 14 new players for a net spend of just over £3.6 million for Chris Davies. They ranked 7th for highest net spend, and only a small number of teams had more arrivals; however, leading up to deadline day, Davies shared his desire for more arrivals:

“I think we need a little bit of reinforcement, just depth in our defensive area and again, we could do with a bit more depth, maybe higher up the pitch as well. But we have to see what the squad looks like in the next couple of days because there’s a lot of moving parts to it, as I said. But everyone’s trying, we’ll see what happens.”

The Blues did manage to bring in late additions in defender Jack Robinson and winger Patrick Roberts from Sheffield United and Sunderland respectively. However, it now looks like that deadline day didn’t satiate Davies’s desire for reinforcements and so Birmingham are looking to take advantage of the free agent market to bring in a Premier League-proven midfielder.

Birmingham front-runners to sign free agent Oxlade-Chamberlain

Birmingham City are looking to reinforce their midfield options and continue developing into a Premier League quality team by bringing in free agent and former Premier League winner Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Since leaving Liverpool in 2023, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been playing for the Turkish side Besiktas. However, in mid-August, it started being reported that Besiktas were looking to terminate Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract and that the midfielder was interested in a move back to England. On August 27th, the Turkish side paid off the remaining £1.5 million of his contract, making him a free agent.

While any club could have signed the Nike-sponsored midfielder during the transfer window, clubs focused on deals that required an actual club-to-club transfer, as being a free agent, Oxlade-Chamberlain can be signed at any time.

Ever since the rumours of a contract termination first broke, Birmingham have been one of the most heavily connected teams. Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke has now reported that Birmingham are at the forefront of the race to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain and are the leading candidates. However, they face competition from European teams as well as Premier League side Leeds United.

Opportunity to sign "wonderful" midfielder

If Birmingham can tempt Oxlade-Chamberlain away from his other suitors, they will be receiving a seasoned player with Champions League and International experience.

When he joined Besiktas, his former Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp, had plenty of praise, calling Oxlade-Chamberlain “wonderful”.

In the years since Klopp said this about Oxlade-Chamberlain, his injury record hasn’t improved. However, the experience that he can bring to the Birmingham side, having gone through a successful promotion campaign with Southampton and having copious amounts of Premier League experience, will make him an invaluable addition to the team.

England Test off spinner Shoaib Bashir is set to join Glamorgan for the start of the County Championship season on a short-term loan from Somerset, ESPNcricinfo understands.With Bashir behind Jack Leach at Somerset, and the emergence of off-spinning allrounder Archie Vaughan, the county were happy to let Bashir leave Taunton on a temporary deal. The ECB helped facilitate the move to Glamorgan as Bashir is currently on a one-year central contract, and are keen for the 21-year old to get more playing time to hone is raw talent. The stint is understood to be for the first three matches of the season, starting at Sophia Gardens against Leicestershire on April 4, before away fixtures against Gloucestershire and Middlesex.The move allows Glamorgan to cover for leg spinner Mason Crane who will miss the first three rounds with a shoulder injury. The acquisition of Bashir in the absence of Crane, who was due to partner Ben Kellaway – who bowls both left- and right-arm orthodox – allows the club to adhere to a plan of playing two spinners in their XI at the start of their Division Two campaign.Related

The 21-year-old undertook a similar loan spell at Worcestershire last season – an arrangement Glamorgan were also interested in at the time – in what was a breakthrough 2024.Propelled onto the international scene for the Test tour of India despite just six first-class appearances to his name, Bashir impressed with 17 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls, in his first three caps. He soon usurped Leach as England’s primary slow-bowling option for the home summer and marked that ascension with career-best red-ball figures of 5 for 41 in the second Test against West Indies, bowling England to victory at Trent Bridge.Challenging series followed against Sri Lanka (six dismissals at 49.33) and in the winter against Pakistan (nine at 49.55) and New Zealand (eight at 51.75). وخسر ليفربول بثنائية مقابل هدف، في المباراة التي جمعتهما ضمن منافسات الجولة الثامنة من بطولة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز “بريميرليج”.

وتعتبر هذه الهزيمة الرابعة المتتالية التي تلحق بالريدز بقيادة آرني سلوت بعد كريستال بالاس وتشيلسي في البريميرليج، وجالطة سراي في دوري أبطال أوروبا واليوم أمام مانشستر يونايتد.

وقال سلوت، في تصريحات عقب المباراة نقلتها صحيفة “بي بي سي سبورت”: “من الصعب دائمًا اللعب ضد فريق يدافع بكتلة دفاعية منخفضة ويعتمد بشكل أساسي على الكرات الطويلة، ويزداد الأمر صعوبة عندما تخسر بهدف بعد دقيقة واحدة عندما يكون أحد لاعبينا قد سقط على أرض الملعب”.

وأكمل: “لو أخبرتني قبل المباراة أننا سنخلق هذا العدد الهائل من الفرص ضد هذه الكتل الدفاعية المنخفضة، ضد كل هذه الكرات الطويلة، لما توقعت خسارتنا، لكن هذا ما حدث، أتيحت لنا فرص كافية لتسجيل أكثر من هدف ولكن من ناحية أخرى استقبلنا هدفين، إحداهما من ركلة ثابتة”.

وعن الخسائر المتتالية أوضح: “نعم، بالطبع ربما استقبلنا فرصة أو فرصتين إضافيتين، بالإضافة إلى الأهداف التي استقبلناها، ولكن عليك دائمًا المخاطرة أكثر عندما تكون متأخرًا بنتيجة 1-0”.

واستطرد: “مع الأخذ في الاعتبار، نادرًا ما استقبلنا أي فرصة ونحن ننتظر هدفًا، وعلينا الدفاع عند الكرات الثابتة، كما حدث ضد كريستال بالاس وفي مباريات أخرى هذا الموسم، استقبلنا هدفًا من كرات ثابتة، وهذا أمر يصعب تقبله، لأنه من الصعب جدًا الفوز بمباراة كرة قدم برصيد سلبي في الكرات الثابتة”.

ووجه رسالة إلى اللاعبين قائلًا: “يجب أن يستمروا في تقديم ما يقومون به، الأمر يبدو مزعجًا حينما تقدم كل ما لديك وتصنع كل هذه الفرص ولا تفوز في النهاية”.

وأردف: “يوجد الكثير من الانتقادات بالتأكيد لكن أقول للاعبين أنتم ترتدون قميص ليفربول وعليكم أن تقاتلوا منذ الدقيقة الأولى حتى الدقيقة الأخيرة وهذا يحدث بالفعل لكن نريد الاستمرار على هذا”.

وأتم: “علينا أن نحقق الانتصار، علينا أن نواصل العمل والإيمان ولا نشتكي كثيرًا لأنه لا وقت للأعذار”.
