Everton Could Sign 20-goal "Danger Man" In Simms Swap Deal

Everton have now held talks with Swansea City over a potential swap deal for striker Joel Piroe, with Ellis Simms going in the opposite direction, according to a report from The Daily Mail.

What's the latest Everton transfer news?

Everton have set their sights on bringing in a new striker this summer, and journalist Sacha Tavolieri has recently reported they have "formally expressed" their interest in Almeria's El Bilal Toure, having made it clear they are willing to pay his €40m (£34m) release clause.

However, the situation involving the Mali international is a "bit messy", with Fulham also named as potential suitors, so the Toffees could look at other options, including Leeds United's Rodrigo, with journalist Paul Brown recently backing the Spaniard for a move to Goodison Park.

The Goodison Park outfit have continued to run the rule over Saletnitana forward Boulaye Dia, who has a release clause of just €25m (£21.5m), which is due to expire on July 25th, so they may have to move swiftly to secure his services.

According to recent reports, Piroe is also on Everton's wish list, with the Swansea forward available for a fee of just £12m due to the fact he has one year remaining on his contract, meaning this summer is the Welsh side's last chance to cash-in before they lose him for free next time around.

The Toffees have now been offered another way of acquiring the striker's services, however, as The Daily Mail report Swansea have discussed a potential swap deal, with Simms going in the opposite direction.

Simms is attracting the interest of a number of Championship clubs, with Stoke City and Coventry City being named as potential suitors, as the latter club need to replace Viktor Gyokeres, who has previously been linked with a move to Goodison Park.

It remains to be seen whether Everton would be willing to facilitate a swap deal, but it could be a good way of bringing in a new attacking option for a reduced fee.

How many goals has Joel Piroe scored?

The Dutchman found the back of the net 20 times for Swansea last season, following up an equally impressive 2021-22 campaign, in which he registered 22 goals and six assists in the second tier.

Those performances indicate the 23-year-old is ready to make the step up to the Premier League, and it is very clear the Toffees are in need of some fresh impetus in attack, having scored just 35 league goals last season, the second-fewest in the top flight.

Hailed as a "danger man" by journalist Josh Bunting, the former PSV man could be exactly the type of signing Everton need to get them firing, but the only question is whether they will be willing to let Simms leave.

The English forward only managed to score one goal in 11 league games last season, although he did show very promising signs at Sunderland earlier in the campaign, netting seven goals in 17 outings.

As such, we feel Everton should try and pursue a deal for Piroe without including Simms in the negotiations, with the former's contract situation putting his club in a very limited negotiating position.

Man Utd Could Land Zlatan 2.0 In £70m "Monster"

In news that came as little surprise to anyone, Manchester United recently announced the departure of January loan arrival, Wout Weghorst, with it looking unlikely that the towering Dutchman will be making a return to Old Trafford on a permanent deal any time soon.

Having been signed to help provide Erik ten Hag's side with further firepower following the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Burnley giant went on to score just twice in 31 games in all competitions in the second half of last sesson, with arguably his most telling contribution seeing him provide an assist for Marcus Rashford in Febuary's Carabao Cup final triumph.

With the 30-year-old's inevitable exit now leaving injury-prone asset Anthony Martial – who made just 29 appearances last term – as the Red Devils' only senior out-and-out striker, it is no surprise that the signing of a new centre-forward remains the "priority" for Ten Hag, according to The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell.

One potential target that has been suggested of late is Juventus powerhouse, Dusan Vlahovic, with reports in Italy claiming that the Old Trafford outfit have made contact with the Serbian's agent regarding a possible summer swoop.

The former Fiorentina ace – who only made the move to Turin on a £66.6m deal back in January 2022 – was reportedly the subject of a £70m bid from Chelsea earlier in the window, with a move away from the Allianz Stadium potentially on the cards.

The 23-year-old – who has scored 72 goals in 171 games during his time in Italy to date – could well be the striking "monster" that United are craving, as hailed by journalist Carlo Garganese, helping to ensure an end to the club's current centre-forward woes.

Intriguingly, the 6 foot 3 ace has previously been described as the 'new Zlatan Ibrahmovic', with the hope being that the Belgrade native can replicate the impact that the enigmatic marksman had at the Theatre of Dreams.

How good was Ibrahimovic at Man United?

Also a towering presence like United's current target, the 6 foot 5 Swede was snapped up on a free transfer during Jose Mourinho's first summer in charge back in 2016, having previously enjoyed a glittering career prior to that at the likes of Inter Milan, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as with Vlahovic's current side, Juve.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Man United

Despite having been 34 at the time of his arrival in England, the recently-retired hitman proved an instant hit in his new surroundings, scoring on debut to clinch victory over Leicester City in the Community Shield.

While an ACL blow would ultimately curtail his impact in Mourinho's side late on in that 2016/17 campaign, the Malmo-born menace still managed to rack up a stellar haul of 28 goals and ten assists in 44 outings, before netting once more the following season after making a brief return from injury.

Not only was Ibrahimovic an undoubtedly clinical presence when leading the line, but in his own words he was also something of an "animal", utilising his imposing frame to bully defenders and make a real nuisance of himself through the middle.

Much like the ex-AC Milan man – who Mourinho lauded as a "fighter" – Vlahovic also appears to possess remarkable strength and power in attack, with the aforementioned Garganase stating it is "scary how strong he is" as he "fights three defenders at a time".

For United to again have a real focal point in the side who can also deliver the goods in front of goal would surely be a dream, with the hope being that the Juve star can follow in Ibrahimovic's footsteps and make a smooth transition to life at United.

Not easy to emulate 2016 campaign – Williamson

The New Zealand captain, who has played only eight IPL games over the past two years, said that it was important the new-look Sunrisers team gelled well if they are to have any chance of a title defence

Tough to back up the team culture we built last year – Williamson

Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Kane Williamson has said it will be difficult for his team to reprise their title-winning feat from last year, and that they will need a different approach for IPL 2017. Williamson’s thoughts echo those of coach Tom Moody, who felt a particular brand of cricket doesn’t guarantee success all the time.”Yeah, it’s never easy [to replicate the performance of last year], but I think it’s important that you go into it with an open mind and look to take it on, perhaps, a little bit differently because things won’t always be the same as they were,” Williamson told ESPNcricinfo on the eve of the season-opener between Sunrisers and Royal Challengers Bangalore. “I look forward to the first game against Bangalore, should be a tough one.”Bonding well as a team, according to Williamson, remains critical to achieving the kind of results Sunrisers had last year, especially as they have a few fresh faces in their 25-member unit. The defending champions bought eight players, including four foreigners, at the auction in February after offloading six from last year’s squad.”Our team is a little bit different to what it was last year. Lot of similar faces, but there are some new players, so it is important we gel well with a slightly different unit,” Williamson said. “Always tough backing up [what Sunrisers did in 2016], but we have actually quite a new-look side this year as well with a slight change of personnel. But that’s very exciting.”Last year, I think as a team we gelled really well. There were a number of great contributions from the likes of David Warner and Mustafizur Rahman, who were brilliant throughout the campaign, but there were also a number of cameo performances that assisted all the way along, so there was a good team culture last year. It is great playing in the IPL, meeting a bunch of new guys and players that you played against a lot in the international calendar, and a lot of local talent as well. So, it is always nice coming here.”A senior member of the Sunrisers Hyderabad outfit, Williamson has played only eight matches for the franchise in two seasons•BCCIWilliamson, 26, himself hasn’t always been a first choice in the XI, and has only played eight games for Sunrisers over the last two years. Last year, he played his first game in the third week of the tournament after missing the initial few games with a hamstring injury. Williamson went on to have a middling campaign, and finished with 124 runs from six games, at a strike-rate of 101.63, significantly lower than his career strike-rate of 118.55 in the T20 format. What does he put it down to?”Pretty small sample size?” he suggested, with a laugh. “Look, it’s always different playing in different conditions, different situations, batting in a few different spots. I don’t really think about that stuff too much. It’s always about trying to do what the team requires at that point in time, whatever the strike-rate needs to be, it needs to be, but you aren’t just focusing on that.”Williamson, however, has had a terrific run recently across formats. Apart from scoring two Test hundreds against South Africa, he has racked up scores of 73*, 12, 60 and 13 in the four T20I innings since January. Williamson, though, is aware that those numbers may not necessarily guarantee a longer run in the team.”[Maybe] score a few runs, maybe bowl a few overs, [maybe] take a few catches and that sort of clichéd stuff [to hold down a place],” he said with a laugh. “But, look, it is important that as a team member you are just looking to give to the side whether you are playing a lot or whether you are not, and prepare well. If you are given the opportunity, you look forward to taking it.”But, you know it is a great thing to see the team do well. It was great watching them, having played a little bit last year, but a lot of it on the sidelines. It was still fantastic to be a part of that success and all we want to do this year is try and contribute to the success that we might have this year.”

Sunrisers top order brushes Kings XI away

Half-centuries from Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner and Kane Williamson set up Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 207 for 3, a total they defended comfortably with the help of Rashid Khan’s legspin

Highlights – Dhawan, Warner, Willamson guide Sunrisers home

Sunrisers Hyderabad showed intent from the outset to get ahead of Kings XI Punjab via quickfire fifties from their top three batsmen, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner and Kane Williamson. Thereon, Sunrisers never looked like squandering the decisive advantage they gained within the first quarter of the game, putting on the joint second-highest total of the season and following it up with another relatively comfortable defence.Shaun Marsh put on a display of timing in a belligerent 50-ball 84 to keep Kings XI in the hunt for the majority of the chase despite an increasing required rate. However, Kings XI’s insufficient resources towards the end meant they fell 26 runs short. Sunrisers’ win pushed them to third on the points table.Getting ahead of the gameIshant Sharma, one of two fast-bowling inclusions for Kings XI, bowled an accurate first over and generated appreciable lateral movement. Anureet Singh, the other, started with three leg-side deliveries. Dhawan flicked two of those deliveries to the boundary. Ishant’s line was wayward in his next over, and Dhawan picked him off for plenty of free runs. Dhawan helped himself to 20 of his first 23 runs into the leg side. Warner laid into the left-arm spin of Axar Patel, and Sunrisers plundered 60 in the Powerplay, their best this season. The field spread but the Sunrisers openers’ intent didn’t change: Warner and Dhawan hit five boundaries in the first five overs of the innings and six more between overs 6 and 10. Warner was bowled for 51, looking to swat Glenn Maxwell in the 10th over. By that time, Sunrisers had scored 107.T20s not all about powerWilliamson isn’t the most powerful of ball-strikers, especially while hitting straight. What he lacks in power, he makes up in touch. After Warner’s dismissal, Williamson took his time, accruing nine runs in nine balls. As soon as he felt a need to attack, he picked his areas and executed flawlessly. When the spinners dropped short, Williamson pulled. When the seamers were wide, he cut. He also improvised to hit behind square on either side as fatigue crept in. He faced the same number of deliveries as Warner, but scored three runs more without a muscular stroke.Falling behind legspinBefore the game against Kings XI, Rashid Khan had conceded just 48 runs off 45 balls against overseas batsmen this season. Kings XI required 141 runs off 13 overs when Warner introduced Rashid. Shaun Marsh and Eoin Morgan weren’t particularly comfortable against Rashid’s legspin. So they decided to chip away as opposed to putting Rashid off his length. While Marsh and Morgan, aware that Kings XI’s lower order was thin on batting, prodded about, the asking rate soared over 12. Rashid conceded just 16 off his four overs and had Eoin Morgan caught in the deep. It wasn’t the worst tactic from Kings XI, but the target proved to be too much to ‘play out’ a bowler.

Celtic: Exciting claim emerges from Sky Sports “sources”

Celtic "really want to compete" in the Champions League next season and "make a mark" in the competition, according to Sky Sports' Anthony Joseph.

What did Joseph say about Celtic?

Celtic will once again enter the Champions League group stage after winning the Scottish Premiership last season and will be hopeful of making a slightly bigger impact in Europe's premier competition next year than they did last.

Drawn into a difficult group with then reigning champions Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk, Ange Postecoglou's side only managed two points – two 1-1 draws with Shakhtar.

A couple of humblings by Real Madrid and competitive but ultimately fruitless encounters with Leipzig resulted in an underwhelming European venture, but luckily for the Hoops they have another chance to shine on the continent this year.

Who Celtic's opponents will be this time round will become apparent at the end of August, but the Scottish side will be hoping for a more favourable draw than last season.

According to journalist Joseph, the Hoops are relishing the chance to make amends for last season's European performances, now with Brendan Rodgers back at the helm at Parkhead.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT: "In my conversations with contacts and sources, they keep stressing that they really want to compete in the Champions League and make a mark in Europe.

"And certainly, in the new format, they feel they have the foundation and the budget to win the league this year and put themselves in that position to get that increased Champions League revenue, and the increased amount of matches and really make a mark."

The Champions League is set to change format in the 2024/25 season which will result in a shift to an overall league table and will move from teams playing six games to eight games in the opening round.

The revenue that each club makes from playing two extra games could be significant and Celtic will be hopeful of building themselves into a force on Europe's biggest stage.

Scottish clubs have generally struggled to compete with the more traditional 'big league' clubs in recent years, despite a storied history in Europe in the past, but the Hoops are evidently eager to change the narrative around clubs north of the English border.

While it will be nigh on impossible for Celtic to replicate the Lisbon Lions of 1967, they will be desperate to make it beyond the group stage for the first time since the 2012/13 season.

Who are Celtic signing?

If last season's treble-winners want to spring some surprises in the Champions League they will need to invest heavily this summer.

Rodgers' task of improving his squad in the market will have been made significantly easier by the £25m his side are to receive for Jota's move to Saudi Arabia. While not all this will be spent on new recruits, it certainly allows Celtic to invest in keeping Rangers at bay for another year.

The Bhoys have already brought two new faces to Parkhead with Odin Thiago Holm and Marco Tilio, the latter a potential replacement for the departing Jota.

The two youngsters will likely be only the beginning of a wave of new signings in Glasgow as Rodgers receives the backing he needs to continue Celtic's dominance in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic have been linked with former loanee Mohamed Elyounoussi, as well as Fabian Rieder and Yang Hyun-jun in recent weeks, with Celtic preparing their attack on Europe next season.

Premier League Side Eyeing £2m Rangers defender

An update has emerged on a possible exit for a Glasgow Rangers defender ahead of the 2023/24 Scottish Premiership campaign…

What's the latest Rangers transfer news?

According to The Sun, Premier League side Nottingham Forest are 'lining up' a swoop to sign Light Blues left-back, Borna Barisic during the summer transfer window.

The report claims that they are keen to sign the Croatia international to solve their full-back woes after Renan Lodi returned to Atletico Madrid at the end of last season.

It states that Forest sporting director Ross Wilson, who left Ibrox earlier this year, is now ready to raid his former team to bolster Steve Cooper's squad.

There is no mention of how much the English outfit are prepared to pay for his services but it does say that the Gers could demand a fee of around £2m.

How old is Borna Barisic?

The Rangers defender is 30 and now in the final year of his contract with the Scottish giants, which means that this could be the perfect opportunity for Michael Beale to cash in on him.

Barisic turns 31 in November and this interest from Forest would allow the Gers to potentially replace him with a younger option in that position to compete with Ridvan Yilmaz, instead of handing a new deal to a player who may be heading into the final years of his career.

Beale must ruthlessly ditch the Croatian veteran as his defensive performances left far too much to be desired last season, with his lapses in concentration at the back post making him a liability at times.

Former Celtic midfielder Kris Commons wrote that the full-back 'nods off like a security guard' in defence and described him as the 'weak link' in the Rangers team, who could be specifically targeted by the opposition to cause damage to the Glasgow giants.

Glasgow Rangers defenders Borna Barisic and James Tavernier.

Pundit Stephen Craigan also stated that the 30-year-old dud "can’t defend his back post" and claimed that he is not going to learn to improve that aspect of his game at that age.

Rangers finished seven points behind Celtic in the Premiership table last season and Beale must not leave any stone unturned this summer in his attempts to build a side that will be capable of wrestling back control of the division next term.

This is why brutally binning Barisic from the squad could be a shrewd piece of business for the English head coach amid this interest from Forest as the Light Blues would be moving on a player who has proven himself to be a liability in defence.

The £18k-per-week dud could be immediately replaced by 22-year-old talent Ridvan Yilmaz, who has time on his hands to develop and grow with more experience at Ibrox, after the ex-Besiktas man started five games in May at the end of last season.

A potential fee of £2m could also allow Beale to dip back into the market to bring in another left-sided option to compete with the Turkey international for a spot in the team.

The 42-year-old tactician could target a defensive-minded player who is capable of guarding the back post to stop the likes of Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda from sneaking in to score easy goals in the Old Firm matches next season.

Hours after resigning as India coach, Anil Kumble tweeted “thank you!”, and attached a statement to his tweet

ESPNcricinfo staff20-Jun-2017I am honoured by the confidence reposed in my by the CAC, in asking me to continue as Head Coach. The credit for the achievements of the last one year goes to the captain, the entire team, coaching and support staff.Post this intimation, I was informed for the first time yesterday by the BCCI that the Captain had reservations with my ‘style’ and about my continuing as the Head Coach. I was surprised since I had always respected the role boundaries between Captain and Coach. Though the BCCI attempted to resolve the misunderstandings between the Captain and me, it was apparent that the partnership was untenable, and I therefore believe it is best for me to move on.Professionalism, discipline, commitment, honesty, complementary skills and diverse views are the key traits I bring to the table. These need to be valued for the partnership to be effective. I see the Coach’s role akin to ‘holding a mirror’ to drive self-improvement in the team’s interest. In light of these ‘reservations’, I believe it is best I hand over this responsibility to whomever the CAC and BCCI deem fit.Let me reiterate that it has been an absolutely privilege to have served as Head Coach for the last one year. I thank the CAC, BCCI, CoA and all concerned.I also wish to thank the innumerable followers and fans of Indian cricket for their continued support. I will remain a well-wisher of the great cricketing tradition of my country forever.- Anil Kumble

Tottenham Ask For Information On "Magnificent" £41k-p/w Star

Tottenham Hotspur have now asked for more information about Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo, with the deals for Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven stalling, according to a recent report from CaughtOffside.

What's the latest Tottenham transfer news?

It has now been reported that Ange Postecoglou is now set to focus all his efforts on signing Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, who has recently been stripped of the captaincy at Old Trafford, but the manager has other centre-back targets in mind.

Tottenham have been working on deals to sign Van de Ven and Tapsoba for quite some time now, with the Bundesliga duo previously emerging as the club's leading targets, however they are only likely to sign one of the two.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Spurs have reached a broad agreement with Van de Ven on personal terms, however there is still a "distance" on an agreement with Wolfsburg, as the German side's asking price is deemed to be too high.

The deal for Tapsoba is stalling for similar reasons, meaning Tottenham may look at signing former loanee Clement Lenglet, while they are also exploring the possibility of signing either Marc Guehi or Joachim Andersen from Crystal Palace.

Sources have told CaughtOffside that the Lilywhites have now also asked for more information about Adarabioyo's situation at Fulham, amid the defender's uncertain future at Craven Cottage.

The 25-year-old's £41k-per-week contract is currently set to expire in the summer of 2024, and talks over a new deal completely collapsed back in June, meaning this summer will be the Cottagers' last chance to cash-in.

At the moment, Tottenham have made no formal proposal for the Englishman, but that could change if the deals for their top defensive targets continue to stall.

How good is Tosin Adarabioyo?

Lauded as "magnificent" by football writer John Cross, the 6 foot 5 colossus made 25 appearances for Fulham in the Premier League last season, establishing himself as one of the Cottagers' key players as the season progressed.

The former Manchester City man averaged 5.5 clearances per game in the top flight, by far the most of any player in the squad, while an average of 1.2 tackles was the highest of any Fulham centre-back.

Previous reports have indicated Adarabioyo could be available for the cut-price fee of around £13m this summer, which would make him an affordable option for Tottenham, who are unwilling to match the high asking prices for Tapsoba and Van de Ven.

Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo

However, there is good reason why Tapsoba could command a higher transfer fee, as he has performed better than the Fulham ace on a number of key defensive metrics over the past year, averaging more tackles and blocks per 90.

Not only that, the Bayer Leverkusen star is much more assured in possession of the ball, attempting an average of 71.08 passes per 90, and he is fantastic at driving the ball forward, ranking in the 92nd percentile for progressive carries.

With Postecoglou keen to implement an aggressive and attacking style of play, Tapsoba could be the perfect signing for Tottenham, and they will be hoping Leverkusen are willing to lower their asking price in the coming weeks.

Newcastle Could Land £22m Livramento Alternative

Newcastle United are preparing to extend upon their impressive progression seen at St James' Park over the last 12 months and Eddie Howe will be working hard to develop the best approach to their European challenge.

After finishing fourth in the Premier League last season, the Magpies have qualified for the Champions League for the first time in over two decades and the former Bournemouth boss will be hoping he can not only maintain their high standards set domestically, but compete comfortably on the European stage too.

Newcastle have already completed the signing of former AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali and ex-Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes, but Financial Fair Play restrictions mean they have had to part ways with Allan Saint-Maximin to bolster transfer funds to continue their pursuit to bolster key areas of the squad.

What's the latest on Tino Livramento?

The Tynesiders have been in a back-and-forth with Southampton to sign their young full-back Valentino Livramento this summer, however, they had their second bid rejected less than a week ago.

Saints value their player at £50m this summer, as they battle with Premier League sides to keep hold of their prized assets after being relegated to the Championship at the end of last season.

talkSPORT reported last week that Newcastle had offered £30m in their second attempt to secure Livramento's signature, but have failed to meet the demands set with Southampton unwilling to budge on their valuation.

As a result, Newcastle could now look to another target to fulfil their desire to snap up the services of another full-back this summer, with Galatasaray's Sacha Boey named as a potential alternative, according to Turkish news outlet Aksam.

It is further claimed that despite not wanting to sell their young talent, the Super Lig champions would part ways with their player for €25m (£22m) – less than half of the price tag Southampton have tied to Livramento.

Who is Sacha Boey?

The 22-year-old – hailed "tireless" by Turkish writer Çetin Cem Yılmaz – rose through the ranks of the Stade Rennais academy before making a permanent move to Galatasaray in 2021 and has also been a consistent feature in the France U21s so far.

Since making his move to the Turkish top-flight, Boey has been linked to Premier League clubs with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool all previously credited with interest in the full-back over the last six months due to his outstanding performances.

sacha-boey-premier-league-transfers-newcastle

Over 31 Super Lig appearances last season, the Galatasaray dynamo scored one goal, registered four assists and created eight big chances, as well as averaging 1.1 successful dribbles to outline his attacking attributes.

In making 2.1 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and winning a whopping 6.9 duels per game, it proves that he is also defensively solid.

Not only that, Boey was the fifth-highest ranking player in his squad last season with a SofaScore rating of 7.14, which only further demonstrates his impact and the revelation he has become over his short time in Turkey.

Whilst Livramento is a homegrown prospect, his recent return from a long-term ACL injury is cause for concern ahead of next season, with no clarity on whether he will be fit enough to play even in rotation, let alone first-team football, whereas Boey has a relatively clean recent injury history with just two games missed since December 2021.

With that being said, Boey could be a great alternative for Livramento if the club cannot meet Southampton's valuation this summer and would provide Howe with an all-action full-back who would be a worthy successor to Kieran Trippier in the future.
